ELEMENT 2.3 - MAINTAINING SAFE CONDITIONS FOR WORK, HAZARD AWARENESS AND MITIGATION
Learning objectives:
16) Recognise hazards, risks and controls associated with working with HV transformers (Knowledge, basic level)
17) Discuss roles and responsibilities within the team for ensuring equipment is made safe, deenergised and locked out before work begins (Knowledge, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Facilitate the participants to review and discuss the importance of hazard awareness and mitigation and how to maintain safe conditions.
Emphasise that work must only take place on deenergised equipment controlled by a responsible person under a SSOW
Highlight hazards of the work environment, the equipment and the task using relevant work instructions and risk assessments to include:
a.
electrical hazardous energies
b.
pressure fluid hazards
c.
chemical hazards
d.
temperature and fire hazards
Break the participants into small groups and provide an illustration of HV transformer maintenance tasks asking groups to identify potential sources of hazards.
Quiz participants on good and bad practices from their experience in work that includes related hazards and controls comparable to HV transformer maintenance tasks.

manual handling, ergonomics and use of PPE

maintaining clear ventilation to equipment
