A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER

~ Ms Tongue, Headteacher Ms Summers took part in the great Glen Kayak Challenge, kayaking 78km across the Lochs and Canals of Scotland, from Fort William to Inverness over the recent bank holiday weekend. She is raising funds for the Youth Adventure Trust, a charity she has volunteered with for several years. To read more about the challenge and support this fundraiser click here. On Monday we were delighted to welcome students and staff from Gothenburg. We have forged strong links with the Swedish choir over the years and it was wonderful to see friends reconnect following our visit to Gothenburg in the autumn term. Congratulations to Sam L (7FGC) whose work ‘The vase and the plant’ was also selected for inclusion in the Royal Academy’s Young Artists Summer Exhibition. expeditions. I hope that these are blessed with equally fabulous weather. Thank you to all the Year 10 parents and carers who attended this week’s Post-16 options evening which we held in conjunction with Kingston College. I was pleased to hear so many positive comments at the end of the evening. The slides can be found on our website. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

info@waldegravesch.org STAY CONNECTED WITH US:

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and we have launched our new student wellbeing platform Zumos. Students will be able to use Zumos to find clinically approved and peer-reviewed resources to proactively take care of their wellbeing. It’s a really exciting new addition to the support and wellbeing provision that our students have access to. Additionally, students in Year 9 have attended a Street W!se assembly which is a youth safety campaign being rolled out across all Secondary Schools in the borough. It aims to give our young people tips on how to stay safe when they are out and about, what to do and who to contact if something happens. We hope that this has been a really valuable experience for our students and that they have taken a lot from it. Assemblies for students in the other year groups are being scheduled for next half term. Students in Year 9 have also been given a travel card holder reinforcing the key safety messages and emergency contact numbers. Please see two short Safety Guides with Street W!se information, one for Parents and Carers and the other for Young People.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘Things a Bright Girl Can Do’ by Sally Nicholls

Set in the early twentieth century, this novel follows three brave young women as they all become involved in the Suffragette movement. I loved how Nicholls brought the time period to life, showing what it felt like to be a woman and girl during that turbulent time. But if historical novels aren’t usually your thing, don’t be put off. It feels really modern and fresh, exploring issues like class differences as the three main characters come from different backgrounds. There is also a beautiful love story between two of the characters. It has something for everyone!

Year 9/10 Rounders v RTS

Year 7/8 Rounders v RTS

This week our pupils has their first taste of glory in the rounders tournament against Richmond Upon Thames Scohol. Both our Year 7/8 team and the Year 9/10 teams played and were victorious. The Year 7/8 match was fiercely fought, coming down to only one point in the end. Players of these matches were: Daisy G, Emilia G (both 8EDA) and Jasmine G (10PGU). All the players had a lot of fun, as you can see in their photo. Our Under 15s Cricket team played away this week against both Lady Eleanor Holles and St Richard Reynolds Schools. Waldegrave won, beating both teams! Daphne E (9EFR) was named player of the match for her excellent bowling. Great efforts this week from all our players - keep up the hard work!

BEHAVIOUR FOCUS For this half of the Summer Term the school’s leadership team has chosen to focus on our First Rule at Waldegrave: Respect and value learning, each other and our environment. As part of this we are asking students to be ready for lessons by coming into school with a fully charged chromebook every morning. Please support your child(ren) to get into the simple routine of charging their laptop each evening. Year 8 class 8EBH have written a fantastic poem to remind us all of the Waldegrave ethos. PARENT GOVERNOR RECRUITMENT Our Governing Board is currently recruiting for a parent governor who wants to work at a strategic level to develop the school. We would be particularly interested in appointing someone who works or has experience in Higher Education or Careers Education. Continuous training and development are key to the role and will be provided to help you acquire/develop the skills to be an effective governor and you can read more about the work our governors do on our website. We have sent a letter home with further information and details on how to apply.
