Say “Hello” to Telehealth! Keeping Your Health & Safety Our Priority

What Is Telehealth? Telehealth is defined as the use of electronic communications to share medical information from one site to another, for the purpose of improving the patient’s health. Telehealth includes numerous routes of delivery including patient consultations via video conferencing, transmitting still images, e-health with patient portals, remote monitoring of vital signs, continual medical education, consumer-focused wireless applications and nursing call centers, e-mail, text messaging, remote data capture, and surgical training. The coronavirus pandemic demands that health care providers rethink how they deliver care in ways that reduce risk of further spreading infection. The use of telehealth is one approach that physical therapists can use to help keep both patients and ourselves safe. The Benefits of Telehealth In Physical Therapy Telehealth lets you continue connecting - and working with - your physical therapist to get you the help that you need.

Essentially, telehealth is a way for your therapist to evaluate your movement, discuss your symptoms and progression, and work with you one-on-one. With telehealth, your physical therapist can provide you with functional movement exercises to relieve pain and improve your ability to move pain-free, all from a remote location. At The Training Room, we want you to be able to continue to heal with physical therapy even if you can’t make it to the clinic. Other benefits of Telehealth include: • Advanced intake of subjective history • Wellness and preventative services to avoid pain, further deterioration or hospitalizations • Post-surgical monitoring and rehabilitation • Prevention of readmission to the hospital through home safety evals and mobility screens • Post-discharge checkups and safety screens • Q and A to prevent hospital readmissions and future injuries

What Can I Expect From a Telehealth Session? At The Training Room, each physical therapy telehealth session will depend on what is needed by you from your physical therapist. For new patients, there will be a 45-60 minute evaluation. Your physical therapist will ask questions about your injury/condition and will get a thorough history of what may be contributing to your symptoms. You will then be asked to go through various movements and actions so your physical therapist can evaluation your movement patterns and identify areas that need to be addressed. A large part of the first visit is education on how to reduce your pain/inflammation and make changes to your lifestyle to begin recovery for your injury/condition. A treatment plan will be discussed and a home program will be provided. Follow up visits will be approximately 30 minute appointments to assess symptoms and progress, perform and progress exercises, and advance activity. Exercises, education, modification of activity, progression home program and self- treatments will be explained and demonstrated. Lots can be done with just our eyes and ears! Have a question you need to ask your physical therapist? Looking for advice about your current condition? Want to track the progress you’ve been making? Telehealth makes all of this possible for you, while still ensuring that you are safely distancing at home! Please call us at 856-874-1166 if you are interested in getting started with physical therapy sessions via Telehealth.

Immunity boosting citrus fruits are known to be high in Vitamin C, but strawberries, pineapple, and mango are loaded too! One of the key functions of Vitamin C lies in its ability to increase the production of white blood cells, which are key to fighting infections. Spinach is rich in immunity boosting Vitamin C and is also packedwith numerous antioxidants and beta carotene. Studies show that these may increase the infection-fighting ability of our immune system. Yogurts that have “live and active cultures” printed on the label, whether Greek or regular, are also believed to stimulate the immune system, increase gut health, and help fight diseases. To accommodate those who are dairy-free, the milk and yogurt in this smoothie are interchangeable. Vitamin E is known to be instrumental in supporting a healthy immune system, and almonds are an excellent source. They also add protein, healthy fats, and a hint of creaminess and nutty flavor. Thosewho are allergic can skip it or choose a seed-based butter. Finally, for those who like a little extra sweetness, recent studies have shown that honey has some healing properties, andwe know it’s sweet! My top 3 exercises that can be done at home consist of a deadbug, pushup, single leg squat, and if you have a band, a row variation. I like full body training to create balance in the body. Each one of these exercises has a different emphasis. Give these three demonstrations a try to keep your fitness up at home. DEADBUG For our deadbug, our main goal is to try and glue our back to the floor as we let our foot fall straight out in front of us. This length really challenges our core strength and ability to keep our pelvis still. PUSHUP The pushup is one of the best upper body strength exercises. Keys to a successful pushups include bracing through the core to make sure our body moves in unison. This means from our head to heel, our body will be in linear alignment or perfectly straight. If this is challenging, we can elevate our hands to decrease resistance so using a chair or couch can be helpful. SINGLE LEG SQUAT The single leg squat not only challenges balance but tests our strength as well. We are going to control our decent as we lower towards a chair, couch, or bench. The difficulty of these can be changed by adapting our range of motion. So we can sit to something higher or lower to accommodate for our fitness level. comfortable and thoughtful. My trainer, Akil, was also recommended to me by my coworker, and there again, she was spot on. He is a great communicator, and a gentle, pleasant personality. It is so easy to pop on to Doxy.me and do our sessions. He explained the specific area where my pain was originating from, on a shared screen, with skeletal diagrams, and showed me the muscle groups we would work on strengthening. I just have an Acer Chromebook, which isn’t a fancy computer, but the tele-sessions still work out great. I have never done physical therapy in person, which is possibly preferable, but due to PATIENT SPOTLIGHT

“I was recommended to the Training Room by a coworker of mine, who was working on a leg issue. I have

current circumstances, I’m so grateful to still be able to access a physical trainer. I am perfectly able to see Akil model my assigned exercises, speak with him, and have him evaluate my posture/stance when copying the exercises. In just 3 weeks, my back is already feeling more mobility, less pain, and more stable than in the past two years. Obviously, I am extremely happy that I decided to not only do physical therapy, but to take my coworker’s recommendation of The Training Room. This is my new happy place!” – Alison K.

had a nagging back issue for 2 years, with pain and limited mobility from a ladder fall. I had done lots of previous chiropractic, yoga and other exercises, but was just not getting the improvement I was hoping for. I have had more improvement in the three weeks I have been working with my physical trainer here, than in the past two years! The facility was perfectly neat and clean, and Ann at the reception desk was really nice. My assessment with Mandy was thorough,
