ten. Be sure to look for this informa tion in the books of men who believe the Bible, both Old and New Testa ments, to be the Word of God, not in the writings of men who by the meth ods of higher criticism seek to dis credit the Book’s Inspiration. 4. Study it doctrinally, topically, biographically, and practically. 5. Study it, above all, prayerfully under the leadership of the Spirit. III. SOME PURPOSES FOR SEARCH ING THE SCRIPTURES. 1. To learn of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 5:39). Where could one look for a more important purpose for the searching of any b o o k ? He is our Saviour and Lord. Therefore we should learn all we can of Him. 2. To be sure that we at all times have the truth, especially from those who preach to us (Acts 17:11). 3. To keep us from sinning against our Creator, Saviour, aryl Lord (Psa. 119:11). Here we have, in this verse, the best possession in the best place for the best purpose. (Memorize this verse.) 4. To learn what God has for us and for the world in the days that are yet future to us (2 Pet. 1:19-21). Concluding Remarks for the Leader In the study of the Bible, use all helps that are available. Be sure they are helps and not substitutes. Be sure you use only such books as will help you to revere and use the ONE BOOK, God’s revelation to man. Having the Word stowed away in the head is a wonderful thing; but having it im planted in the heart to govern one’s life and actions is a far better thing. James says (1:22): “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, de ceiving your own selves.” A little girl once said: “Other books are given to us for our information, but the Bible is given to us for our transformation.” JUNE 28,1942 SUMMER SUNDAYS E x o d u s 20:8-11 By Irene M. Hunter Introduction In 1 Samuel 27:10 Achish asks David a question, “Whither have ye made a road today?” Because summer is the time of the alluring, inviting attrac tion of the highway, SUMMER SUN DAYS might be likened to roads. “Life is made up of roads; They start from where you are; Some roads are ending near And some are leading far. The road you choose means much To others and to you; As we think of roads, we notice that some very vital things are true con cerning them. T h i s is true of the ’Tis not so much the road As where ’tis leading to.”

For Those Who Have Topics I. SOME AIDS IN SEARCHING THE SCRIPTURES. (Note the acrostic): 1. Systematically and Specifically (2 Tim. 2:15). Have a method, a place, and a purpose in all your Bible study. 2. Earnestly and Expectantly (Psa. 119:18). James Stalker once said to a group of ministers: “Woe unto you men when the surprise of the gospel is lost to you.” 3. Anxiously and Accurately (Psa. 119:27). This scientific age demands that the Bible student be accurate. It will increase your power. 4. Regularly and Repeatedly (Psa. 1:2, 3). Since this Book is food for the soul, our study of it should be as reg ular as our eating. 5. Carefully and Completely- (2 Tim. 3:16, 17). No part shall be neglected, and no pains shall be spared to be accurate. 6. Humbly and Honestly (John 7:17, 18). Be humble so the Spirit can teach you, and be honest so_you will know just what the Bible says. II. SOME METHODS OF SEARCHING THE SCRIPTURES. 1. Study the Bible as one Book. Read it as you would any other book, from beginning to end, finding its main story and characters. 2. Study it by books, by chapters, by verses, and by words. Learn the con tents of the various sections only after you have seen it as a whole. (An ex ception to this procedure would apply to those who do not yet understand God’s plan for salvation in Christ and have not received Him as Saviour. For such, New Testament books such as the Gospel of John are usually the best with which to begin.) 3. Study it historically and chrono logically. Get the time of each book and the order in which they were writ-
