to them the Scriptures* and caused their hearts to burn within them (Lk. 24:13-35). SUMMER SUNDAYS spent in keeping His name holy, in service for Him in His house and with His people bring such blessings. “Whith er have ye made a road today?” CONCLUSION: How wonderful that we have SUM MER SUNDAYS to s p e n d for Him, days that can be used for His glory instead of in aimless, selfish interests! SUMMER SUNDAYS, like roads, call for our choices. “To every one there openeth A way and ways and a way; And the high soul climbs the high way, . , And the low soul gropes the low. And in between on the misty flats The rest drift to and fro; But to every one there openeth A high way and a low, And every one decideth The way his soul shall go.” * “Whither have ye made a road to day?” *F rom Bees in Amber b y John O xenham . choice of how to spend our SUMMER SUNDAYS.

For Those Who Have Topics I. ROADS ALLURE , INVITE, AT TRACT, AND FINALLY GRIP. The longer a person travels a road, the less likely he is to make any change, the more susceptible he be comes to its lure, the more yielding to its line of conduct. When Lot began to travel the road that led to Sodom (Gen. 13:10-13), it took, in the end, the persuasive power of an angel to drag him a w a y (Gen. 19). So SUMMER SUNDAYS spent in vacation idleness and pleasure cause one to form habits of neglect of God’s house and worship. All o f the persuasive power of loved ones and friend^ to bring us back to God’s way of spending His day are almost in vain. “Whither have ye made a road today?” II. ROADS INFLUENCE. The companionships along the way, the conditions of travel, the signposts —all these leave their impressions on those who travel that way. Andrew walked the road to Christ and led his brother Peter the same way (John 1:40-42). Demas walked the way of the world and doubtless influenced many to walk, the same road (2 Tim. 4:10). So SUMMER SUNDAYS spent for the Lord will influence other lives for Him as will God’s day spent away from Him lead others along the same road. Roads do influence! “Whither have ye made a road today?” III. SOME ROADS NEVER SEEM TO LEAD ANYWHERE. Some roads are aimless, wandering, winding roads that bring amusement for the time, but lack arty real desti nation. Selfish roads they might be called. Such might be described by the following poem: “You-live for yourself, you think for yourself, For yourself and none beside; Just as if Jesus had never lived, As if He had never died.” So SUMMER SUNDAYS can be spent in aimless, selfish interests that have no eternal values (cf. Prov. 14:12, 13). “Whither have ye made a road to day?” IV. ROADS MAY BE SAID TO -BLESS. One day Ruth walked to a cross roads with Naomi. At the crossroads, unlike her sister-in-law Orpah, she chose to go an unknown road with the true God. How much the story of her life from that decision point proves that roads bless! Ruth serving, rest ing, and rewarded! What a feast of blessing! So also the two on the way to Emmaus found b l e s s i n g ‘ and strength on t{ie road as the r i s e n Christ walked with them and opened

J The war is raging on in the most destructive way in the foreign countries. Thousands o f young men are dying daily on the battle fronts. Hundreds o f civilians are perishing from destructive bombs. People áre being carried into eternity with unpardoned sins, without Christ and without hope. Our land, thank God, has not experienced as yet those horrors as Europe, Asia and Africa do, but who knows what is ahead o f us? The future looks very indefinite and dark. God may allow us to go through the same testings as other kingdoms are passing through. The night will overshadow us as it did those continents and the opportunities o f winning precious souls for Christ will cease. Our dear Brother or Sister in the Lord, while God keeps the evil forces' away from our own land, I am pleading with you to help us with your prayers and gifts to give the Gospel to the Russians and other Slavonic people and the Jews in the United States, Canada and South America. j We have several missionaries working already on^ these fields, but we would like to engage ten more at once in our own land o f freedom. We want to tell the Russians, Ukrains, Polish and other Slavs and the Jews living in this country that • Christ has died for their sins and that He will gladly forgive them their sins and give them eternal life, if they will turn to Him and will live according to His Word. We need your help in this Work speedily, m order when the dark days come, Slavs and Jews may die under the ruins o f our cities peacefully with the words on their lips, “ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” “ For I know whom I have believed.” Philippians 1:21, 2 Timothy 1:12.
