THE READIO ‘34 FORD SEDAN

The paint was looking great and the car ready to cruise into its next chapter, but in 2009 on the road to the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Skip started making his own road gators. A relatively new (two years old for sticklers) tire shredded and took out the right rear fender and the quarter including a bite out of the graphics. Skip quickly realized that the webbing/splatter was going to be impossible to match up (from repaired to original), so the webbing had to be removed from both sides and replaced. If you look at new and old pics, there is no difference, good job! It took Skip a full year to get everything back together to attend the 2009 Street Rod Nationals.

In 1986 Skip cruised the ’34 to the Nats in Oklahoma City and slipped in a visit to Tex Smith in Driggs, Idaho, where he bought Tex’s ’48 Chrysler. Skip has attended the Street Rod Nationals every year since 1974, and at times his wife Lorraine would drive the ’48. The changing of the millennium also coincided with the paint taking a final turn for the worse. The Kandy Tangerine had all been worn off on the top, leaving the top a slightly faded Cinnamon Firemist. In the winter of 2004/05 the Kandy Tangerine was stripped off, a new firewall was installed and the rod had fresh paint with the original graphics laid down by Skip and Smiley.
