stantly opening; for the measure o f respon siveness and evident hunger for the Word, on the part o f many o f our boys, and the hearty welcome accorded us, especially, among the fire laddies. W e have had the joy o f seeing many cold, sluggish, dull sensibilities awakened, as memory recalls the old, old story and the Gospel hymns o f long ago, many o f them learned at mother’s ' knee and often sung when mere lads in the old Sunday School days. Very often during the past month we have heard from the men: “Why, it’s five, or ten, or fifteen years since I heard that hymn.’’ They love to sing “ Rock o f Ages,” “Just as I Am,” “ Tell Me the Old, Old Story” and “What a Friend W e Have in Jesus,” and we cannot but believe that God in His matchless sovereign grace is using these dear old hymns to revive the faith o f early days in the hearts o f our TOUR ING the last month a big strike among the men who load and unload the vessels (lopgshoremen) kept most of the ships idle, and the harbor was quiet. Yet, owing to our being able to use the launch, we could reach the ships anchored out in .the harbor where in eight days we were permitted to board three Japanese freighters and had especially good times in the work. The worker was gladly wel comed by the captain in one case and asked by an officer for a Bible. Owing to the shortness o f the stay (on account o f the strike) no meeting could be held, but each and every man on board two o f the vessels was presented with a copy o f the New Tes tament and good tracts. On the large immigrant ship an eager crowd o f passengers was found, some 400 Japanese, 300 Chinese and some Chileans. The men actually followed the worker around, and right away the ship was -transformed

boys. May God give to our own hearts fresh visions o f Jesus Christ, that we may so present Him that those who have heard o f Him often, may feel that they are learn ing o f Hjm as never before. W e need so much to be saturated just with Himself, the risen, glorified Christ, and to become so fascinated with Him that every portion o f Scripture we use is simply a means o f getting at Him and knowing Him better all the time. “ This is my beloved Son, hear ye Him * * * and they saw no man save Jesus only.” O, that we might be able to more appreciate God’s estimation o f His S on ; to view Him from God’s view point, and rest and refresh our weary hearts where God Himself finds, His rest and refreshment, in the One that restored that which He took flot away— Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever. formed to read the tracts and New Testa ments, for which thpre was a wild scram ble. Our friend, the third office (who shows very great interest in the Christian faith), gave us valuable assistance. Before the distribution o f the Scriptures he spoke to the passengers about the coming o f the workers, and o f the nature o f the “ Book o f God,” asking all who wished to have a copy to raise their hands. Hardly had he stopped speaking when hundreds o f hands went up, and some were held down through the skylight from the deck above. In a moment all the Testaments were gone, although we had a large number both in Chinese and Japanese. Before the distribution, a little confer ence had been arranged for us by the offi cer, he introducing six Japanese Chris tians to the worker, and* with the officer acting as interpreter, a helpful time was had with those dear ones, who have, each one o f them, been busy about their Master’s
