With more than 30 years of early years leadership, Dr. Dan Wuori is the Founder and President of Early Childhood Policy Solutions, a bipartisan public policy consultancy focused on the needs of young children, their families, and the early years professionals who serve them. He serves concurrently as a Strategic Advisor on Early Childhood to the Saul Zaentz Charitable Foundation. In both roles – and in his prior position as the founding Director of Early Childhood at The Hunt Institute in Cary, North Carolina - Dr. Wuori has worked alongside governors and state legislators to improve early years policy across the United States. But to parents the world over, Dan is known not for his policy work, but for his innovative use of social media to educate about infants and toddlers – with more than a quarter million followers (across platforms) tuning in to his daily video child development lessons. This work was recently profiled in The New York Times, which called his X (Twitter) account “a font of delight and edification… educational, but also – put simply – awwwww.” His new book The Daycare Myth: What We Get Wrong About Early Care and Education (and What We Should Do About It) was released in September 2024. Upon its announcement, the book – which explores the costly disconnect between what we know about the science of early development and our public policy – spent a week at the top of Amazon’s education, education reform and policy, and developmental psychology best sellers list. It is now in its third printing.
Dan Wuori, Ph.D. Keynote Speaker
Dan Wuori will be presenting the keynote on both Leadership Day and Infant/Toddler Day, as well as breakout sessions on each day (S1 and S13)

Anthony (Ant) Toombs Sr. is a trauma counselor and Founding Member, Growth & Expansion Strategist with the Life is Good Playmaker Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to spread the power of optimism to help kids heal. Throughout his 16+ years with The Playmaker Project Ant has partnered with thousands of childcare professionals across the United States and Haiti to help create more safe, loving and joyful environments for kids to engage, connect, and explore. Ant (along with the entire LiGPP team) believes that when children grow to see the good in themselves, the good in others and the good in their world - their social, emotional, and cognitive superpowers emerge. However, for the seeds of optimism to take root, they must be nurtured. Sadly, in toxically stressful environments that can result from poverty, violence and illness, the seeds of optimism often die. Ant has committed his career to growing the good and supporting the childcare professionals, that The LiGPP call Playmakers – those men and women who dedicate their lives to helping kids heal. Ant is an inspirational and passionate speaker whose lessons help his audience access their own playfulness, energy and creativity to reach their full potential.
Ant Toombs Saturday Keynote
The Healing Power of Play and Optimism Optimism is powerful. When human beings strengthen their ability to see and focus on the goodness and value in themselves, others, and the world around them, their social, emotional and cognitive superpowers emerge. Optimism, however, is fragile. Chronic stress, fear and overwhelming adversity can weaken and destroy our capacity for optimism. This inspiring presentation by Ant Toombs, helps Early Childhood Professionals discover the power of optimism to create safe, loving, joyful, and engaging environments where kids can heal, grow and thrive. Using research, humor and personal stories from 30+ years of work with kids and their caretakers Ant will share how practicing optimism can bring out the best in ourselves, our colleagues and our children.

Leadership Day Keynote
The Daycare Myth: What We Get Wrong About Early Care and Education (and What We Should Do About It)
Keynote presented by Dan Wuori, Ph. D.
For nearly a century, America’s early childhood policy has been premised on a myth. This falsehood ― which dictates that child care and education are somehow separate and distinct ― not only suboptimizes the most important window into all human development, but costs American taxpayers an untold fortune. It’s time to think differently. Join Dr. Dan Wuori, author of The Daycare Myth and one of the field’s most respected bipartisan policy experts as he makes the case for why the early years matter; why America’s longstanding early childhood policy approach sacrifices the needs of young children in favor of promoting adult employment; and why fixing the problem makes good sense, regardless of your place on the political spectrum.

S7. Effective Play Based Learning for Administrators
Presented by Peg Olivera
Learning requires children to be courageous, take chances and explore. Current research on brain development and the role of curiosity and wonder in young children’s learning compels us to restructure practice. Surveys show that most early childhood educators request a reduction in academic pressures and more respect for the normal developmental range of abilities in young children. They want less testing, less data, less paperwork and more time to focus on the individual and unique needs of children. In short, they want more space to implement developmentally appropriate, child directed learning experiences; or the freedom to play. But not all play is created equal. *Spanish translation provided. S8. Transform Your Early Childhood Program: The Power of Practice-Based Coaching Presented by Chris Badenhop Revolutionize educator development with our evidence-based coaching approach that builds on strengths rather than focusing on deficits.
