Connecticut Association for the Education of Young Children Friday, September 26: Infant/Toddler Day Morning Session - 8:30am-10:00am

S17. Toddlers Are Natural Born Scientists Presented by Sabrina Bowersett and Ella Pitman

Young children are innately curious about the whys and hows of our world. They often manifest their scientific nature through inquisitive questions, intentional exploration, and sometimes even silent, keen gazes. Join us to explore how educators can support and foster scientific curiosity in young children through their daily experiences. *Spanish translation provided. S18. The Mind and the Heart 101: Understanding the Journey from Neurons to Nerves to Regulation Presented by Richard Cohen Participants will explore the roots of “behavior problems”. We will see that the process starts in the mind, moves through the nervous system and results in children’s (our) behaviors. Special attention will be paid to self- and co-regulation.

S19. The Impact of Self-Absorbed Parenting on Development Presented by Jeanine K Fitzgerald

Self-absorbed parenting is found in most stories of our popular culture leaving children feeling unseen and unknown. As a result they experience an emotional emptiness described as abandonment that results in a lifelong dance of dysfunction. This session builds a story of how we as professionals must interact in order to heal our children from their loneliness and the resulting emotional scars. S20. How to Talk to Kids Before They Talk Back to Develop Expressive, Receptive, & Social Emotional Skills Presented by Cara Tyrrell This session explores the linguistic concept that the way we talk to young kids builds their early dictionary, crafts their young identity and models healthy interpersonal connection, while teaching ‘self’ skills that inspire a lifelong love of learning.
