A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

I want to say a huge well done to Year 8. I continue to have such wonderful feedback from staff and subject teachers regarding their wonderful work ethic, positive attitudes and the kindness shown by the year group. In form time this week Year 8 were challenged to write a poem about Year 8, life at Waldegrave or their tutor group. There have been some fantastic poems which we will be sharing over the next few weeks. Please see page 4 of the bulletin for a wonderful poem celebrating our school written by 8EBH pupils. It has been lovely to see so many of the year group taking part in extra-curricular opportunities that are available at Waldegrave. Please continue to encourage your child(ren) to take advantage of these provisions as they offer the opportunity to enjoy/learn something new and make new friends across the school community.

Our top three epraise forms this week are as follows - 8PUN , 8STR, 8EDA well-done to those form classes. Topping our individual leaderboard this week is Millie M, 8FLE, well done - keep up the great work!

A reminder that the Athletics Club for all years takes place on Thursdays after school and with sports day on the horizon this is a great place to practice throwing, jumping or running events, get fit, enjoy some fresh air and receive high quality coaching. Year 8 students have been doing exceptionally well with attendance figures consistently good. Thank you for your support as parents and carers for continuing to keep the importance of attending school so high on the agenda. Attending school every day can help your child to achieve their aspirations, and the aspirations you have for them. High attendance rates are associated with improved academic performance, better social and emotional development, and increased opportunities for future success. Please continue to encourage and praise good attendance to school!

Thank you for all your support and here’s to another busy week at Waldegrave for our wonderful Year 8s!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Princess and the Suffragette’ by Holly Webb This is a truly inspirational book about the struggles for women and children in the early 1900s. Set in 1913, the book revolves around the suffragette movement, a campaign group active from 1903 to 1914 which used direct action to advance their aim of achieving women’s suffrage (the right to vote) in the United Kingdom. The book describes the difference in lifestyle for the poor and the rich, covering relatable topics such as divorce and adoptions. I loved how relatable all the characters were and it has slowly become one of my favourite novels of all time! I suggest this book to any historical drama fans, comedy and even non-fiction lovers. Read this if you enjoyed the ‘Rebel Girl’ series or ‘Secretly a suffragette’. I absolutely recommend this book to all ages!
