A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER
~ Ms Tongue, Headteacher Ms Summers took part in the great Glen Kayak Challenge, kayaking 78km across the Lochs and Canals of Scotland, from Fort William to Inverness over the recent bank holiday weekend. She is raising funds for the Youth Adventure Trust, a charity she has volunteered with for several years. To read more about the challenge and support this fundraiser click here. On Monday we were delighted to welcome students and staff from Gothenburg. We have forged strong links with the Swedish choir over the years and it was wonderful to see friends reconnect following our visit to Gothenburg in the autumn term. Congratulations to Sam L (7FGC) whose work ‘The vase and the plant’ was also selected for inclusion in the Royal Academy’s Young Artists Summer Exhibition. expeditions. I hope that these are blessed with equally fabulous weather. Thank you to all the Year 10 parents and carers who attended this week’s Post-16 options evening which we held in conjunction with Kingston College. I was pleased to hear so many positive comments at the end of the evening. The slides can be found on our website. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
info@waldegravesch.org STAY CONNECTED WITH US:
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and we have launched our new student wellbeing platform Zumos. Students will be able to use Zumos to find clinically approved and peer-reviewed resources to proactively take care of their wellbeing. It’s a really exciting new addition to the support and wellbeing provision that our students have access to. Additionally, students in Year 9 have attended a Street W!se assembly which is a youth safety campaign being rolled out across all Secondary Schools in the borough. It aims to give our young people tips on how to stay safe when they are out and about, what to do and who to contact if something happens. We hope that this has been a really valuable experience for our students and that they have taken a lot from it. Assemblies for students in the other year groups are being scheduled for next half term. Students in Year 9 have also been given a travel card holder reinforcing the key safety messages and emergency contact numbers. Please see two short Safety Guides with Street W!se information, one for Parents and Carers and the other for Young People.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12
MR STAVROU, HEAD OF YEAR 12 Klara will also give practical advice on building one’s CV early, including tips on where to find accessible certifi- cations, how to make the most of volunteering opportunities, networking, and how to demonstrate interest in law even before university or formal work experience. Have a lovely weekend! PARENT GOVERNOR RECRUITMENT Our Governing Board is currently recruiting for a parent governor who wants to work at a strategic level to develop the school. We would be particularly interested in appointing someone who works or has experience in Higher Education or Careers Education. Continuous training and development are key to the role and will be provided to help you acquire/develop the skills to be an effective governor and you can read more about the work our governors do on our website. We have sent a letter home with further information and details on how to apply. Year 12 students resumed their timetabled lessons this week. They are continuing to work hard in and out of lessons, which is a testament to their dedication to their studies. Following last week’s sessions, students need to continue to work on formalising their post-18 plans. If anyone needs further support, they can arrange an appointment to come and see me. Please can I remind students that they can check the room locations of lessons on epraise to ensure they are arriving on time. Next week we have an interesting talk arranged for students who are interested in a career in Law. Miss Karimy, a recent ex-Waldegrave student, will be talking to us about the route she took into law and different options available, including university routes and apprenticeships, and what kind of jobs individuals can pursue with a law degree, both within and beyond traditional roles. This talk will give students an insight into what a career in law is like.
BOOK OF THE MONTH
The Island of Missing Trees, Elif Shafak
‘The Island of Missing Trees’ weaves history, memory, and nature into a powerful story of love and loss. Set between war-torn Cyprus and present-day London, it explores the marks conflict leaves on the lives of the characters, with a fig tree entwined through this narrative. Shafak’s storytelling is deeply human, highlighting the pain of displacement and the resilience of identity. This novel is both moving and thought-provoking, poignantly discussing how generational trauma is instilled in our lives today.
