A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week in form time we have been focused on the importance of healthy eating. The student parlia- ment created a presentation which was delivered in tutor groups about the importance of a balanced diet and the benefits that come from this. We also had a video from our canteen staff talking through the different options that the canteen serves which are healthier alternatives. On Tuesday we had the post 16 options evening which was open to both students and parents/carers. This went through the different pathways students can take after they leave school, with presentations from both our Head of Sixth Form, Mr Bannister, and representatives from Kingston College, who went through the more practical options that students can pursue. Hopefully this was useful and informative for all who went.

Congratulations to 10ERU this week, who got awarded the most epraise points in the year group.

Well done to all students that applied to be house captains. It was great to see so much interest in these roles! We completed the interview process on Monday where students were asked to work together in groups to plan a whole school event. Everyone did incredibly well and it was so lovely to watch the students working together so well as a team and delivering some really excellent presentations. Students will be informed of the final decision before the half term holidays.

Have a lovely weekend!

MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 10

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘Things a Bright Girl Can Do’ by Sally Nicholls

Set in the early twentieth century, this novel follows three brave young women as they all become involved in the Suffragette movement. I loved how Nicholls brought the time period to life, showing what it felt like to be a woman and girl during that turbulent time. But if historical novels aren’t usually your thing, don’t be put off. It feels really modern and fresh, exploring issues like class differences as the three main characters come from different backgrounds. There is also a beautiful love story between two of the characters. It has something for everyone!
