Therapy Dog Joins Juvenile Education Program
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU), which provides contracted educational services at the Allegheny County Jail (ACJ), collaborated with the jail to bring a therapy dog into the facility to work with the juvenile population. Link, a seven-year-old Australian shepherd, and his handler work with juvenile students during monthly visits. The students are divided into four different therapy groups that last for 20 minutes each. The jail received consent from parents or guardians of all incarcerated juveniles who participate in the program, and the juveniles can opt out at any time. Jail Marks One Year of Offering Sublocade, Begins Buprenorphine Induction In February, the jail marked one year of offering Sublocade injections, which expanded the medication-assisted treatment (MAT) options for individuals who experience opioid use disorder (OUD).
