To promote, preserve, and deliver security and safety throughout Allegheny County through the use of uniformed patrols, investigations, and providing technical assistance to local police departments and criminal justice agencies.

Allegheny County Police Department is a law enforcement agency providing law enforcement services to county property, including the Pittsburgh International Airport, the Allegheny County Airport, and various parks. The Department aids all municipal law enforcement agencies, and generally

investigates all serious crimes, such as homicide, except in the City of Pittsburgh. It also protects the downtown county office complex with the Building Guards Division, as well as participates in multiple federal, state, and local task forces to address crime and criminal justice issues in the region. Sworn officers are deployed in the Police Academy and as evidence technicians at Police Headquarters. Allegheny County Police Department is comprised of two divisions: Investigative Division and Uniformed Division. The Investigative Division includes detectives in General Investigations, Homicide and Narcotics, as well as intelligence analysts, audio-visual lab technicians and computer forensic technicians. The Uniformed Division is responsible for maintaining public safety at the County Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport, and nine county parks.
