Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation The Allegheny County Police Department (ACPD) obtained reaccreditation through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC). The Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association administers the PLEAC program. To achieve reaccreditation, ACPD demonstrated compliance with more than 128 adopted best practice standards throughout the three-year cycle. This is ACPD’s fourth successful reaccreditation. Notably, while 375 agencies are enrolled in the program, ACPD is one of 149 agencies currently maintaining accredited status. Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement Training ACPD completed Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) training and is one of 345 ABLE-trained police agencies nationwide. ABLE training is administered through a train-the-trainer program and provides officers with the necessary strategies and tactics to prevent misconduct, reduce officer mistakes, and promote health and wellness. It equips officers with the tools to overcome powerful inhibitors when there is a duty to intervene on the actions of fellow officers. Georgetown University Law Center’s Innovative Policing Program created ABLE in collaboration
with global law firm Sheppard Mullin. ABLE serves as a national hub for active bystander scholarship, training, and technical assistance. ACPD committed to the ten ABLE standards, which ensure that ABLE training is effective at preventing harm and creating a culture of active bystandership. As part of the ABLE application, ACPD secured and submitted four letters of support demonstrating commitment to ABLE standards. The Allegheny County Executive, ACPD Superintendent, and community groups MAD DADs of Greater Pittsburgh and the Neighborhood Resilience Project submitted letters.
