Allegheny County Emergency Services, 9-1-1 telecommunications officers, and Northwest EMS also participated in the exercise. The exercise included assistance from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Pennsylvania State Police, Findlay Township Police, Moon Township Police, and Coraopolis Police. The exercise demonstrates ACPD’s commitment to continuous planning and preparedness for disasters, conflict, and public safety. Airport Community Liaison ACPD assigned an officer to serve as a community liaison at the Pittsburgh International Airport. The officer is building relationships with businesses and employees, introducing them to ACPD and its services. As a community liaison, the officer is developing contacts to aid in future investigations, interactions, and work with the traveling public. Active Shooter Events Training ACPD, in coordination with Kane Community Living Centers and its Safety Department, conducted a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events training. ACPD provided training to staff and supervisors at all four Kane Center locations in August and September.

In collaboration with downtown business owners, the ACPD team and the PBP partnered to deploy a problem-solving, community-oriented approach to address the issues facing the central business district. In early February 2023, ACPD assigned a sergeant and four officers downtown. ACPD officers arrested violent offenders, those illegally in possession of firearms, and those involved in illegal drug activity. Additionally, officers connected residents experiencing mental health crises and homelessness with necessary services. ACPD will continue to patrol downtown Pittsburgh until the area is stabilized.

Pittsburgh International Airport Active Assault Exercise In May 2023, ACPD organized an Active Assault Exercise at Pittsburgh International Airport to prepare for a real-world event. ACPD collaborated with the Allegheny County Airport Authority to perform the exercise at night to minimize the impact to the traveling public and non-participating airport employees.
