A1 Leeming to Barton
Upgrading sections of the A1(M) to dual the existing highway required many new structures. Reinforced Earth provided 6 new bridge structures for the section between Leeming to Barton with many of these providing fully integral or semi- integral Reinforced Earth bridge abutments. Bridge spans of over 40m on the fully integral bridges were achieved and over 90m spans with single piers on the semi-integral bridges. A few of the abutment walls were curved to provide an aesthetic structure. In total over 4,400 m² of panels were supplied on the project.

M27 Romsey Road
As a result there was a significant cost and time saving due to reduced demolition and less requirement to dispose of the concrete waste. Using discrete soil reinforcing strips means the design can be flexible and work around any obstructions in the backfill.
The bridge which carries the A3057 Romsey Road over the M27 is a concrete overbridge constructed in the 1970s. The bridge had developed cracks at the ends of the prestressed concrete beams and was unable to move as designed due to a failure of it’s bearings.
The bridge needed to be demolished and replaced with a new structure, however the demolition was to be kept to a minimum and so the existing bridge abutment bases were kept and RECo designed the new structure around these bases, using a mixture of techniques within the Reinforced Earth mass.
