WORKERS’ CLINIC b y L ow e ll B row n Guest A rtic le THE BIBLE....

The Bible The Now Book It speaks to the Now people

Sunday school means Seeking new approaches for teaching the Book It means Homebound departments and Sunday workers’ departments It means Vacation Bible Schools and Weekday Bible Study and Bible Conferences and Fellowship Bible classes And approaches yet undreamed of It means seeking to lead others to open the Book. Sunday school means

The lonely, the confused, the rebel, the conformist The frightened, the poor, the oppressed, the affluent The aimless, the failure, the successful, the young The in-between, the old, the beautiful, the ugly The celebrity, the nameless, the Phi Beta Kappa The illiterate, the fatalist, the brokenhearted The in-group, the out-group, the atheist, the agnostic The believer. But churches must reach out to the Now generation The generation that does not seek But must be sought That will not come But must be brought That will not study But must be taught. Churches must gather together the men, women, and children Of the Now generation That they may hear and learn and fear The Lord their God And observe to do all the words of His law. Sunday schools must care enough To ring the doorbells of the indifferent and the unlovely They must love and care enough to go seventy times seven times Sunday schools must go until the people come. For Sunday school means seeking and knocking and bringing And opening the Book The Now Book— the Book of the Ages. Sunday school means Facing scorching heat or driving rain or winter snow To complete the census It means paying the price to become Better teachers of the Word.

Discovering relevance and meaning in the Now Book It means confrontation with the Christ of the Book And commitment of life to Him. Sunday school means Being captivated by the Spirit of the Book And living it every day It means finding quiet places to be alone with God It means families worshipping together. It means witnessing and ministering And applying the teachings of Christ In everyday issues of life. Sunday school means Commitment -to the church which Christ established It means helping each Christian to grow And find his place of service through his church. The future? What of the future of Sunday school?

New methods, new organization New techniques, new resources. Greater days are ahead if churches Will seek the leadership of the Holy Spirit In reaching the Now generation with the message of the Now Book.
