Jew and Israelite became synony mous terms about the time of the captivity. It is one of the fallacies of Anglo-Israelism t h a t J e w stands for a bodily descendant of Judah. I t stands for all the sub jects of the Kingdom of Israel. In the New Testament the same people that are called Jews 174 times are called Israel 75 times. Anglo-Israelism first loses the ten tribes . . . then identifies this ‘lost Israel’ with the B r i t i s h . There is as little historical rea son for the supposition tha t the ten tribes are lost as there is Scriptural basis for a separate destiny for Israel apart from Ju dah.” The argument tha t only Jews — and not Israel — were in Pal estine at the time of Christ and in the early days of the church falls apart by studying the Word. A look at such verses as Acts 2:14, 22, 36; 4:8, 10, 27; 26:4-7 alone will suffice where the terms are used interchangeably by Pet er, John and Paul: “Ye men of Judaea . . . Ye men of Israel . . . All the house of Israel . . . Ye elders of Israel . . . All the people of Israel . . . the people of Israel . . . all the Jews . . . our twelve tribes.” Of the 35,000 promises in the Bible, 30,000 refer to Israel and these have been appropriated to themselves by the British-Is raelites. I t is a strange kind of anti-semitism indeed. This sys tem in substituting confidence in national origin, and that a mis taken, fictional background, for faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, is “another Gospel.” “This is the stone which was set a t nought of you builders, which is become the head of the comer. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, where by we must be saved” (Acts 4 :11- 12). We have no desire to rob the Jews — Israel — of what God has promised them. We shall have our own heritage and together we shall rejoice forever in the won drous grace and love of God “to the Jew and also to the Gentile.”

Lamb, in his fine book exposing the errors of this cult, says, “I have never come across error so absurd and yet so dangerous in its possible implications. The only house of God there is today is made up of spiritual stones,'each believer in the Lord Jesus Christ being a living stone in the church which is the body of Christ. Jar- cob’s stone pillow has no mention anywhere else in the Bible. With out the least scrap of either Bibli cal or historical evidence, the British-Israelites te ll m a n k i n d that Jacob carried that stone with him in all his wanderings.” Tak ing Scriptures which refer to the Jews and Israel as “the lion” “the unicorn,” the sect relates the British symbols of the lion and unicorn to “Israel-Britain.” The thistle of Scotland is called “the cup of salvation” ; the shamrock of Ireland becomes an emblem of the Trinity; the American eagle is likened to the eagle in the cedars of Lebanon! The Jerrys of Ireland are said to be so named for their prophet Jeremiah; the Davies of S c o t l a n d for King David; the Scottish plaids are lik ened to Joseph’s “coat of many colors.” John Bull is supposed to be connected with Joseph’s crest (said to be a bul l ) ; Joseph was Ephraim, therefore Ephraim is British-Israel, so E p h r a i m is John Bull!
