namic and chosen young person. Somehow, the slides on the screen didn’t seem so out-of-this-world as missionaries’ slides had ap peared before. Children in the pictures appealed to me as God’s children, or children who needed God. Right then a personal message got through to me. There must be missionaries on the islands where I was going. What a thrill it would be to meet real, live mis sionaries on a mission field! My itinerary hardly allowed time for a shampoo or for writing home. But that Sunday in Puerto Rico? Its being a part of the United States would make it home mission territory. Of course mis sions on the island would be in rural communities inaccessible to tourists, I rationalized. Besides, I hadn’t tim e .. . . After a sleepless night, I wrote an inquiry to my denominational Home Mission Board. By return mail I received a friendly reply, followed promptly by a list of churches and missions on the is land. Our Superintendent of Mis sions at Puerto Rico suggested that I v i s i t Calvary Baptist Church in the San Juan area be cause English is spoken there. Thoughts of the cross-country tour flew out the window. My girl friend and traveling companion agreed to take notes and buy some slides for me. But how could I find a small mission church in a strange city of half a million Spanish-speaking people ? “Why not write to the pastor a t Calvary Church?” my minister suggested. “Tell him you’d like to visit the church. Give him the name of your hotel. Ask him to leave a message for you, telling what time services are held and how to get there. But a word of caution! Remember his time is dedicated to the Lord. Mission aries haven’t the time or money to entertain strangers.” “I see what you mean. I ’ll not expect any favors,” I assured him, and dashed home to get that let ter off by airmail.
