INFECTION CONTROL AND RISK MANAGEMENT PROTOCOLS Goals

Purpose: The purpose of infection control policies and procedures is to minimize the risk of transmission of blood-borne and airborne pathogens to patients and dental health personnel within the clinic. This will be achieved by: • Hepatitis B immunization and vaccination for other transmissible diseases. • Tuberculosis screenings • Education and training in infection control procedures • Use of current and appropriate barrier techniques

Provide a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and patients in accordance with OSHA standards. Provide an effective infection control model that will aid in the education and understanding of infection control issues that are based in the recommendations of the American Dental Association (ADA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Comply with the most recent standards published by the Occupational Safety and health Administration (OSHA). Introduction: Concerns over the risk of blood-borne disease transmission has heightened the need for infection control in the dental environment.
