OUR VISION
To provide an innovative parks and recreation system that consistently exceeds community expectations. Shawnee County Parks+Recreation is a CAPRA accredited organization that is governed by the Board of Shawnee County Commissioners. We proudly boast nearly 60 miles of trails, 109 parks containing 2,696 acres, seven recreation centers, seven swimming pools, over three dozen soccer, baseball and softball facilities, three beautiful golf courses and the Lake Shawnee Recreation Area. SCPR is also the proud caretakers of several Museums and Attractions throughout the county, including Old Prairie Town at Ward Mead Historic Site, Great Overland Station, Gage Park, and the Mini-Train and Carousel in the Park. These amenities see thousands of visitors every year and host large cultural events and meetings. SCPR offers 320 annual days of sporting activities. In addition, the department offers recreation programs, educational activities, summer camps and community gatherings reaching over 1,000,000 visits a year. A combination of tax dollars, user fees, and private donations in partnership with the Shawnee County Parks for All Foundation, a 501c3 organization, enables Shawnee County Parks+Recreation to ensure our future as a leading Parks and Recreation department for the citizens of Shawnee County, Kansas.
