“ A large number of our employees came through the CDS program. Every year, we want to see what these students can do. They will be the future of our companies, as well as the world. ” — Chad Burchett, Volvo

As a CDS sponsor, you have direct access to the brightest young minds shaping the future of mobility. Not only will you help advance STEM education and support young minds, you will tap into a highly qualified pool of talent, heightening your brand exposure and building your future workforce. A wide variety of sponsorship levels are available. Read on and choose the package that works best for you.

When more than 10,000 engineering students put their learning to the test in the largest intercollegiate student engineering design competitions in the world, inspiring and innovative things are bound to happen. That’s what the SAE Collegiate Design Series (CDS) is all about—empowering the next generation of mobility engineers to take their classroom education to the next level—teaming up to design, build, and test vehicles in multiple mobility categories.

“ It’s an incredible experience here with the students…their systems knowledge, their passion for cars. ” — Peter Kuechler, Ford Motor Company

As the largest of the CDS competitions, the Formula SAE series competitions features two types of classes, Internal Combustion (IC) and Electric, which challenge teams of more than 4,300 university undergraduate and graduate students to conceive, design, fabricate, develop, and compete with small, formula-style vehicles. FORMULA SAE ®

BAJA SAE ® Students take their skills off road in this rugged challenge, which tasks participants to design and build a single-seat, all-terrain sporting vehicle tailored to the nonprofessional, recreational, off-road enthusiasts. An example would be creating vehicle suspension to overcome a course that is designed

Over eight to 12 months, these competitions give teams the chance to demonstrate and prove both their creativity and engineering skills in comparison to teams from other universities around the world. Formula SAE sponsorship details located on page 6.

with rocks, logs, hills, and mud. Students will encounter situations they would find in actual work environments, from resolving technical challenges to addressing business concerns. Baja SAE sponsorship details located on page 10.

FORMULA SAE ® ELECTRIC Introduced in 2013, Formula SAE Electric allows the development of fully electric vehicles within the Formula SAE framework. Teams use vehicles powered only by electrical motors and compete in events such as design, presentation, cost, acceleration, skidpad, autocross, endurance, and efficiency.

completion of a concept design written paper as well as simple missions for on-site evaluation, located in Yuma, AZ. Year 2 (2019) will focus on urban environment driving scenarios with static and dynamic objects. This will be located at Mcity, a one-of-a-kind urban test facility that simulates a broad range

technologies, computing platforms, software design implementation and advanced computation methods—all with an end goal of navigating an urban driving course in automated driving mode. Year 1 (2018) focused on the concept selection for the university teams by having them become familiar with their sensing and computation software. They were tasked with

This three-year challenge engages students in the exciting world of auton- omous vehicles. Involving them in the development and demonstration of a fully autonomous passenger vehicle, the AutoDrive Challenge™ Competition(s) builds skills and experience in the real-world applications of sensing

of complexities that vehicles encounter in urban and suburban driving environments. While AutoDrive Challenge™ has many corporate sponsors/ partners like other SAE Collegiate Design Series competitions, General Motors is the exclusive OEM sponsor of the competition.

delivering “colonists” to a designated landing zone using a small autonomous glider carried by the primary aircraft and released in a designated area. It requires teams to create and integrate a set of reliable systems meeting baseline requirements for the class, including the primary aircraft, the autonomous glider, a payload delivery system that accommodates different payloads and a ground station. CLEAN SNOWMOBILE CHALLENGE ™ With two classes of competition-Spark-Ignited and Compression-Ignited Sleds—this challenge provides students with the opportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills by re engi-neering an

understanding of flight, this real-world challenge tests students’ ability to compress aircraft development into a single calendar year. In that year, it exposes participants to the nuances of conceptual design, manufacturing, system integration/ test, and sell-off through demonstration. A new theme for Advanced class will be introduced in 2019, which involves a subscale demonstration of
