At Times I’ve Felt Like Job : A Story of ‘Choices’ is entitled as such, because just like Job in the Bible, I was blessed numerous times as a young person. At the same time, I also experienced a great deal of suffering, still my faith has never wavered! I only really wish I could say the same about the rest of society, since it seems too many have left the church, and abandoned many of the
lessons they were taught as a little child - wishing to live only for the moment. Well, this book - and the others that follow, are attempts to get people to right their wrongs, and return to the desired pathway that will lead them Homeward.

by Sirena Kuo and Sofia Kriz of The Fashionography
pring is here, and with it comes a fresh crop of sunglasses trends just in time to elevate your accessory game. This season, eyewear is all about making a statement, with updated takes on classic shapes and a few bold newcomers. Aviators are back with a twist, giving us chunky, rounded frames that bring a fresh, playful vibe while still nodding to their sharp, iconic roots. Meanwhile, rectangular frames are making a major return, offering clean, confident lines that work just as well with a casual look as they do with something more polished. Oval sunglasses are also making a strong comeback, with sleek, minimalist designs that bring a touch of elegance to any outfit. Whether it’s modern updates from big labels or fresh takes from indie brands, this season’s sunglasses are all about versatility and personality. From retro to futuristic, there’s a frame for every style, making it easy to step into spring with the perfect pair to match your vibe. AVIATORS Aviator sunglasses have been around for nearly a century, but their enduring popularity proves that some styles only get better with time. Today, aviators are enjoying a major revival, especially with modern updates that make them feel fresh and current. One of the biggest twists is the rise of bubble, chunky, and rounded aviator styles, which offer a softer, more exaggerated look compared to the classic sharp, angular frames. These playful, oversized designs are a direct reflection of the current trend toward bold, statement-making accessories. S

So Where Did We Go Wrong ? is titled as such because, in the last sixty years, I have witnessed the very values that many have grown up with and have tried to follow being abandoned in exchange for the pursuit of earthly possessions. Just as disheartening, walking over and ignoring the “little” people that might get in the way.
The same can be said of the rest of society! Since it seems too many have left the church and have sacrificed their integrity, wishing to live only for the moment. THE CLASSIC RECTANGLE The classic rectangular sunglasses are back in a big way this year, and it’s easy to see why. This shape, once considered a bit more buttoned-up, now brings a sharp, modern edge to any look. Whether in oversized or more tailored sizes, rectangular frames are popping up everywhere, and designers are getting creative with them. At Paris Fashion Week, labels like Balenciaga and Saint Laurent showcased rectangular sunglasses alongside sleek suits and bold outerwear, showing just how easily the style can make a statement. It’s a shape that pairs as well with a casual outfit as it does with something more polished, making it a go-to for anyone wanting to look put-together without trying too hard. In 2025, sunglasses go beyond mere accessories—they’re statements of individuality, where retro revivals meet futuristic frames in a bold fusion of style. OVAL FRAMES Oval sunglasses are making a strong comeback in 2025, offering a fresh take on a timeless shape. The style’s clean, minimalist design makes it a perfect match for both bold and understated looks. Designers are embracing oval frames with modern updates, often pairing them with sleek, tailored outfits. Miu Miu, for example, showcased oval sunglasses with thin acetate rims and ultra- flat lenses in their latest collection, creating a chic, streamlined vibe. Celine’s Triomphe sunglasses, with their elegant acetate construction, bring a refined yet laid-back energy, proving just how versatile oval frames can be in high fashion. EC

emaire‘s “Wearable Sculptures” exhibition is a testament to the brand’s commitment to merging art with fashion. The showcase features the innovative work
of Carlos Peñafiel, a self-taught Chilean artist renowned for transforming the human body into a canvas. Born in 1949, Peñafiel’s collaboration with Lemaire began in the Fall-Winter 2014 collection, where his creations added a unique flair to the runway show at La Maison de la Radio et de la Musique in Paris. One of the standout pieces from this collaboration is “The Carlos Bag,” an accessory that blurs the lines between sculpture and utility. Described as “a magic lamp, an object of erotic projections that stimulates the touch and the imagination,” the bag’s design is inspired by the shape of a clamshell. Peñafiel’s approach to design emphasizes the tactile experience, inviting interaction and engagement. Peñafiel’s work transcends traditional fashion, creating statements that are as much about artistic expression as they are about everyday wearability. As he reflects on his creations, “I look for things that communicate something deeper about our interactions with our environment.” Lemaire’s collaboration with Peñafiel brings his wearable art into the realm of high fashion, turning the gallery into an immersive experience that is both cerebral and visually arresting. Where history meets modernity—discover the art of living in a space that fuses Bologna’s Renaissance charm with West Coast minimalism. Step into a home where grand architecture and sleek design create a timeless harmony. TIMELESS FUSION
magine stepping into a home `where the grandeur of Bologna’s Renaissance past meets the effortless sophistication of modern California. This seamless fusion of aesthetics is redefining luxury living, I
creating spaces that are as rich in history as they are in contemporary comfort. A TALE OF TWO AESTHETICS At first glance, the Renaissance-inspired homes of Bologna and the clean-lined residences of Los Angeles couldn’t be more different. The former revels in intricate craftsmanship, with ornate columns, vaulted ceilings, and rich textures that whisper tales of centuries
past. The latter, meanwhile, is a love letter to minimalism—expansive glass panels, open-concept interiors, and an emphasis on natural light. But when thoughtfully combined, these two distinct styles form a symphony of design that celebrates both heritage and innovation. In Bologna, history is woven into every building. Its iconic porticoes, arched doorways, and rustic stone facades evoke an era when architecture was both an art

LIVING
Take, for instance, a 17th-century fireplace in a contemporary living room. The patina of centuries-old marble becomes a focal point against crisp white walls, its opulence softened by the simplicity of Scandinavian-inspired furnishings. Likewise, antique wooden doors sourced from Bolognese palazzos find new life in streamlined kitchens, where handleless cabinetry and stone countertops provide a fresh contrast. Color plays a defining role as well. While Renaissance interiors lean toward deep, jewel-toned hues—emerald greens, sapphire blues, and regal burgundies— modern West Coast design embraces a muted palette of taupes, beiges, and soft grays. The compromise? A base of neutrals accented by strategic pops of rich color, often in the form of statement artwork, throw pillows, or artisanal ceramics. FURNITURE & DÉCOR: BALANCING TRADITION WITH MINIMALISM Furnishing a home that blends Renaissance opulence with West Coast ease requires a thoughtful mix of eras and styles. A velvet- upholstered chaise lounge might sit beside a sleek, mid-century modern coffee table. A gilded Venetian mirror could reflect the natural light pouring in from a steel-framed
frescoes but paired with contemporary lighting fixtures—sleek pendant lamps or recessed lighting that provide illumination without distraction. Another striking combination is the juxtaposition of Renaissance-era wooden beams with polished concrete floors, creating a stunning contrast between rustic warmth and urban cool. Outdoor spaces also play a crucial role in this fusion. Courtyards and terraces, reminiscent of traditional Italian villas, are being reimagined with California-inspired landscaping—drought-tolerant plants, infinity pools, and shaded lounge areas that embrace year-round al fresco living. Large sliding doors erase the boundary between interior and exterior, inviting sunlight to dance across historical stone walls and modern furnishings alike. INTERIORS: OLD MEETS NEW The magic of this design philosophy lies in the details. Renaissance interiors often boast intricate carvings, gold-leaf accents, and richly patterned textiles. To prevent these elements from feeling overwhelming in a modern setting, designers are opting for a restrained approach—allowing one or two historical features to take center stage while keeping the rest of the décor understated.
and a statement. This old-world charm provides a solid foundation for modern enhancements—neutral palettes that allow architectural details to shine, contemporary furnishings that lend an air of relaxed sophistication, and high-tech elements that make daily life seamless. Meanwhile, the influence of Los Angeles brings a sense of airiness, casual elegance, and a deep connection to nature. Floor-to-ceiling windows replace heavy drapery, merging interiors with lush courtyards or sun-drenched terraces. Natural materials—wood, linen, stone—add texture without overwhelming the space. The result? A refined yet livable aesthetic that celebrates both grandeur and simplicity. ARCHITECTURE: A HARMONIOUS FUSION One of the key elements in merging Renaissance charm with West Coast modernity is scale. Bologna’s historical architecture often features grand proportions—high ceilings, expansive entryways, and decorative moldings. To maintain this sense of volume while infusing a modern touch, designers are opting for open-plan layouts that allow spaces to flow naturally into one another. A quintessential example is the use of vaulted ceilings adorned with

window. Handmade Italian ceramics share shelf space with abstract sculptures. The key to achieving balance is in the curation. Instead of filling a space with antiques, homeowners are selecting just a few impactful historical pieces and pairing them with contemporary, well- crafted furniture. Art, too, bridges the past and present—traditional oil paintings are reimagined in oversized formats, while contemporary prints find unexpected backdrops against stuccoed walls. Texture is another essential element. The smoothness of Carrara marble countertops plays against the rough-hewn beams of a centuries-old ceiling. Crisp linen drapes soften the severity of an industrial-inspired staircase. Plush rugs ground spaces that might otherwise feel too expansive. Every detail is considered, ensuring that the old and new do not compete but complement. LIVING THE AESTHETIC More than just a design trend, merging Renaissance charm with West Coast modernity is a lifestyle choice—one that embraces both historical richness and contemporary ease. It’s about slowing down to appreciate the craftsmanship of a hand-carved wooden door, while also reveling in the convenience of smart home technology. It’s about savoring a morning espresso in a sunlit courtyard, surrounded by climbing ivy and modern outdoor seating. It’s about creating spaces that are both aspirational and deeply personal. For those looking to infuse their homes with this dynamic aesthetic, the process starts with a keen eye for balance. Invest in quality pieces that tell a story. Allow light to shape the space. And most importantly, embrace the philosophy that true luxury isn’t about excess—it’s about thoughtful, intentional design that stands the test of time. THE FUTURE OF THIS DESIGN MOVEMENT As global influences continue to shape interior trends, the blending of old and new, European and American, ornate and minimal, will only grow in popularity. Architects and designers are finding fresh ways to marry history with innovation, ensuring that homes remain both functional and soulful. Whether in a historic palazzo in Bologna or a sun-drenched villa in Malibu, the marriage of Renaissance charm and West Coast modernity proves that great design transcends time and place. It’s not about choosing between past and future— it’s about creating a space where both coexist in perfect harmony. EC

LIFE HACKS
In our hyper-connected world, social media dominates daily life. But could you unplug for 30 days? The rising trend of digital detoxes promises more time, clarity, and real connections. Here’s how to navigate the challenge. DIGITAL DETOX
1. IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH Social media often fuels comparison, anxiety, and self-doubt. Constant exposure to curated content can make you feel pressured to keep up. Taking a break allows your mind to reset, reducing stress and improving emotional well-being. 2. INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY Mindless scrolling takes up more time than we realize. Without social media distractions, you can focus on work, hobbies, and personal growth. A detox helps boost motivation and efficiency, allowing you to accomplish more. 3. STRONGER REAL-LIFE CONNECTIONS While social media keeps us digitally connected, it can weaken face-to-face relationships. A detox encourages you to be more present, improving communication and strengthening bonds with family and friends. 4. BETTER SLEEP Late-night scrolling disrupts sleep by exposing your brain to blue light, which interferes with melatonin production. Disconnecting from social media helps regulate your sleep patterns, leading to better rest and overall well-being. 5. ENHANCED SELF-AWARENESS Without the influence of likes and online validation, you can focus on your thoughts, goals, and emotions without external pressure. A detox encourages self-reflection and helps you pursue activities that bring genuine fulfillment. A social media detox isn’t about quitting forever—it’s about creating a healthier balance. Whether you unplug for a few days or a month, stepping away can help you reclaim your time, focus, and mental clarity.

THE CHALLENGES OF UNPLUGGING 1. FEAR OF MISSING OUT (FOMO) Many people worry about missing important updates, trends, or news while offline. This anxiety is natural, but a detox can help you realize that life continues even without constant online engagement. Over time, you’ll learn to be more present and appreciate real-world experiences. 2. BREAKING THE HABIT Social media is designed to be addictive, making it second nature to reach for your phone without thinking. Stepping away requires effort and mindfulness, but breaking this cycle can be liberating. As you adjust, you’ll regain control over your screen time and develop healthier habits. 3. REDUCED DIGITAL NETWORKING Professionals often use social media for networking and career opportunities, making it difficult to disconnect. However, this break presents a chance to explore in- person networking, phone calls, or email connections, proving that relationships can thrive beyond digital platforms. 4. LONELINESS OR BOREDOM Without the constant stimulation of social media, some may initially feel isolated or bored. Instead of scrolling, this time can be redirected toward hobbies, exercise, or deepening personal relationships, making the transition more rewarding. A social media detox isn’t about quitting forever— it’s about reevaluating your relationship with digital platforms. After 30 days, many people report feeling more focused, less stressed, and more connected to real life. Are you ready to take the challenge? EC

VISIONARY CHRONICLES Albert Lynn Clark never planned to be a writer—until he couldn’t find the sci-fi book he wanted to read. Fueled by passion, he turned his vivid imagination into a whirlwind of self-published stories. His journey proves that creativity knows no timeline.
lbert Lynn Clark never set out with the deliberate ambition of becoming a writer. It wasn’t a career path he chose but rather an innate urge to share his perspective and stories with the world. “Each book I embarked on,” he explains, “stemmed from a unique and specific motivation.” Clark sheds light on his writing process, offering a glimpse into the discipline it requires. “It takes about 40 A

The challenge, he notes, lies in translating that internal vision into words. “For the first three volumes of ‘Ancient Destiny,’ it took six weeks to type, upload to Amazon, get the paperback, read, and edit,” he recalls. Despite his structured approach to writing, Clark acknowledges that inspiration often strikes in unpredictable ways. Ideas frequently emerge from personal experiences, observations, and moments of reflection. His stories, while deeply imaginative, remain grounded in emotions and themes that resonate with readers. “Every writer has a unique process, and it’s essential to find what works best for you.” Clark also emphasizes the importance of perseverance in writing. He encourages aspiring authors to embrace the challenges of the craft, recognizing that the process can be both demanding and rewarding. He believes that dedication and passion ultimately determine an author’s ability to see a project through to completion. While writing is often seen as a solitary pursuit, Clark finds fulfillment in the connection it fosters. He values the opportunity to share his stories with readers and appreciates the discussions and insights they bring. The ability to engage and inspire others through storytelling, he notes, is one of the most gratifying aspects of being a writer. In addition to writing, Clark remains an avid reader and traveler. Though he only began writing books at the age of 68, his background in technical writing—drafting procedures and manuals for the military—honed his skills in clarity and organization. This structured approach carried over into his creative work, allowing him to efficiently produce and refine his novels. For Clark, writing is an act of discovery. “Every writer has a unique process, and it’s essential to find what works best for you,” he believes. While some thrive in collaborative settings, he found that producing a significant volume of raw material before editing was the most effective approach. Ultimately, Clark sees storytelling as an extension of passion and purpose. “The most compelling stories arise from a deep-seated desire to share something meaningful with

Beyond writing, Clark’s life has been rich with reading and travel. He typically consumes two to three novels per week, along with multiple magazines and online content. Having visited all 50 states in the U.S. and around 30 countries, his experiences have informed and enriched his storytelling.

From architecture to fashion to cuisine, explore how this timeless aesthetic is redefining luxury through quality, authenticity, and restraint. ITALIAN MINIMALISM
38
EC Magazines | Bologna Edition 2025
M inimalism isn’t a new concept, but in Bologna, the movement takes on a uniquely Italian nuance—one that merges simplicity with heritage. Unlike its Scandinavian or Californian counterparts, Italian minimalism is rooted in history, craftsmanship, and a refined sense of balance. Picture the clean, white-washed facades of Bologna’s modernist buildings complemented by terracotta tiles, antique wood, and artisanal ceramics. This design ethos reflects a lifestyle centered around quality, intention, and understated luxury. Bologna, with its Renaissance roots and reverence for artisan craftsmanship, brings depth and authenticity to the minimalist palette. The focus is on natural materials, muted colors, and an emphasis on space and light. In fashion, this trend translates into linen shirts, tailored denim, and leather accents. In home decor, think raw wood, concrete finishes, and open- plan layouts. It’s a style that invites calm, celebrates craftsmanship, and resists excess—a true embodiment of la dolce vita through the lens of thoughtful simplicity. Yet, Italian minimalism is not about sterility or uniformity. Instead, it embraces imperfection—the warmth of aged stone, the subtle irregularities in hand-thrown ceramics, the worn patina of vintage leather. This approach makes minimalism feel more personal, more lived- in. In Bologna, simplicity does not mean sacrificing character; rather, it enhances it. THE PHILOSOPHY OF ITALIAN MINIMALISM At its core, Italian minimalism values quality over quantity. Whether in design, fashion, or lifestyle, the emphasis is on longevity and craftsmanship. It’s about investing in pieces that stand the test of time, favoring the artisanal over the mass-produced. This philosophy can be seen in the city’s boutique ateliers, where leatherworkers, tailors, and furniture makers create one-of- a-kind items designed to last generations. Unlike the stark minimalism often associated with Northern Europe, Italian minimalism maintains a sense of warmth. Earthy tones, natural textures, and handcrafted details create an aesthetic that feels inviting rather than austere. The goal is to strip away the unnecessary while allowing personality and history to shine through.

Wardrobes are built on timeless essentials: crisp white shirts, soft cashmere sweaters, impeccably cut trousers, and supple leather loafers. The color palette remains neutral, allowing textures and silhouettes to take center stage. The Bolognese approach to fashion reflects the same principles seen in its design— effortless, elegant, and deeply rooted in craftsmanship. For locals, fashion is not about chasing trends but curating a wardrobe that feels both functional and refined. Tailoring plays a crucial role, with garments designed to fit perfectly, draping effortlessly over the body. Accessories are understated yet meticulously chosen—a handcrafted leather bag, a silk scarf tied just so, a vintage timepiece passed down through generations. ARCHITECTURE & INTERIORS: A MINIMALIST RENAISSANCE Bologna’s architecture provides the perfect canvas for this philosophy. Walk through the city’s historic center, and you’ll see centuries-old buildings that have been subtly modernized without losing their original essence. Restoration projects focus on preserving historical elements—exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, stone archways— while incorporating contemporary touches like minimalist furnishings, soft lighting, and open, airy spaces.

Modern Bolognese homes embrace this blend of old and new. Interiors often feature a restrained color palette of warm neutrals, punctuated by natural materials such as marble, wood, and brass. Art plays a significant role, with curated pieces adding depth to an otherwise understated space. Kitchens, the heart of any Italian home, maintain a sense of rustic simplicity: stone countertops, handcrafted pottery, and open shelving that proudly displays carefully selected tableware. CULINARY MINIMALISM: THE ART OF SIMPLE INGREDIENTS The principles of Italian minimalism extend to the kitchen as well. Bolognese cuisine is rooted in simplicity—fresh, high-quality ingredients prepared with care and precision. Traditional dishes like tagliatelle al ragù or tortellini en brodo showcase the beauty of restraint, where a handful of ingredients come together to create something extraordinary. The same philosophy applies to dining spaces. Whether it’s a sleek trattoria or a rustic osteria, the ambiance is deliberately unpretentious. Tables are adorned with simple linens, handmade ceramic plates, and glassware that feels both elegant and functional. It’s an environment that encourages slowing down, savoring each bite, and appreciating MINIMALISM As the world embraces more mindful consumption, Bologna’s interpretation of minimalism is gaining international recognition. The movement is inspiring a new generation of designers, chefs, and artisans to create with intention—honoring the past while shaping the future. In an era of excess, Italian minimalism serves as a reminder that true luxury lies in simplicity. Whether through fashion, architecture, or food, Bologna proves that less is not just more—it’s better. This is la dolce vita at its most refined: an appreciation for the essentials, a celebration of craftsmanship, and a life lived with purpose and beauty. EC the artistry behind every dish. THE FUTURE OF ITALIAN
