As we reflect on 2024, we see a year filled with meaningful connections, dedicated service, and the unwavering support of our Providence Life Services family. This past year has been a testament to our mission— to enhance the lives of those we serve in the name of Jesus Christ—and we are grateful for each resident, staff member, and donor who has helped bring this mission to life. Within these pages, you will read stories from within two of our communities— from an inspiring story of two high school friends now sharing their days at Provi- dence to a gentleman whose journey from playing in an Air Force band to inspiring generations of students reflects a lifetime of resilience, dedication, and a love for life. You will also see photos that let you experi- ence 2024 through the eyes of our residents and employees—moments of laughter, faith, and joy.

Our operations review highlights our com- munities’ innovations, achievements, and changes we underwent that ensure excep- tional care for those we serve. Our financial report reflects the careful stewardship of resources that allow us to provide the highest level of care. In our giving section, we share how your generosity directly impacts our residents—creating a place where seniors feel supported. As we look back on 2024 with gratitude, we also look forward with hope and purpose. Thank you for being part of this journey— your support, prayers, and generosity make all the difference. We invite you to celebrate this year with

future. With his financial expertise and commitment to innovation, Bill aims to build efficiencies through technology, including automation, to streamline operations and free up resources to best care for our residents. At the same time, Bill emphasizes the importance of honoring Providence’s legacy. “I don’t see myself as stepping in to reinvent the wheel,” he explains. “My role is to build on what’s already working and prepare the organization to continue serving our residents with the best possible care.” Bill credits his faith as a guiding force in his career, shaping his decision-making approach and dedi- cation to the mission. “Providence is more than an organization—it’s a ministry,” he says. “The staff, who show up daily with passion and commitment, are the heart of who we are. It’s their passion for the mission and their desire to care for the elderly in our community that makes Providence who we are. It’s what makes us unique.” As Providence Life Services welcomes Bill as its third CEO, we continue to focus on the enduring vision that has driven the organization since its founding: to provide better care for seniors in a way that reflects God’s love and

We are excited to welcome Bill DeYoung as our new President and CEO. With nearly 30 years of service to Providence, Bill brings a deep connection to our mission, extensive experience, and a commitment to compassionate senior care. His ties to Providence are both professional and personal. He attended a member church, volun- teered at one of our nursing homes as a teen, and had family members who worked and lived in the organization. These experiences instilled a deep ap- preciation for serving seniors with dignity and love. After earning a degree in accounting, Bill worked in the public sector until a fellow church member, Scott Studebaker, informed him about a CFO posi- tion at Providence. “Bill has always had a heart for service and a sharp mind for leadership. His tran- sition to Providence wasn’t just a career change, it was a calling,” Scott shared. Bill joined Providence in 1995 as Chief Financial Officer and became Chief Operations Officer in 2016. Bill has also contributed significantly to many orga- nizations in the field of aging services. He chaired the LeadingAge Illinois State Association, served on its board, and helped establish Caring Communities, a collaborative insurance program for nonprofit senior care providers. After Caring Communities formed, Bill continued in various board leadership roles for over 20 years. As Bill steps into the CEO role, his vision is clear: to build on our solid foundation while preparing Prov- idence for the challenges and opportunities of the

The friends stay active with bingo, social groups, and visits with the chaplain, ensuring their faith remains central to their lives. But beyond the activities, the heart of Victorian Vil- lage is the support residents receive. When Tracy faced a health scare, doctors told her children she had only a few hours to live-but she miraculously recovered. With the care, therapy, and medical support available at Victorian Village, she regained her strength and continued living a full life. “God was at my side,” Tracy said. Similarly, when Lenore recently battled pneumonia, she was grateful for the on-site home health care services through Providence at Home that provided her with the therapy and support she needed to heal. “Living here is a blessing because you can have care. The doctor and nurse practitioner that come here are very helpful.” For Lenore and Tracy, Victorian Village is more than just a residence; it’s a home where friend- ships thrive, faith is nurtured, and residents are genuinely cared for. As Lenore put it, “God has been by my side through every challenge, and I see His work in bringing me here. I’m thankful for all that we have.” Lenore has 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Tracy has 3 living children, 14 grandchildren, and will soon have 37 great-grandchildren. With faith, friendship, and family at the heart of Vic- torian Village, it’s clear why so many residents find comfort, joy, and belonging in this special place.

Village, knowing it would provide the sense of con- nection and care she needed. Shortly after that time, Lenore, who had family nearby, also decided to move. The presence of familiar faces, a welcoming Christian community, and the staff’s support reassured them that they had made the right choice. The Christian foundation, her friends, and the activ- ities make a difference for Lenore. “It was important for me to be in a place that values faith and provides opportunities for worship and fellowship,” she said. “I didn’t like living alone in my home,” Tracy shared. “Here, I can socialize when I want to or sit in a cozy corner and always find someone to talk to.” At Victorian Village, Lenore and Tracy have discovered multiple opportunities to stay engaged, form new friendships, and continue their lifelong passions. They still sing occasionally and enjoy creative activi- ties like the card-making club, where residents craft beautiful handmade greeting cards for birthdays, condolences, and special occasions.

Over 9 years, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and another 9 years to earn a master’s degree from Purdue University. Despite mobility limitations, he maintains an active mind and cherishes the friendships he’s formed. From his Air Force days exploring Europe and North Africa to cruises post-retirement, Ed has seen the world’s beauty. Highlights include the Panama Canal, the Acropolis in Athens, and camping along the Med- iterranean coast. “We camped right next to the sea, eating bread and beans,” he recalled smilingly. “Those were some of the best days.” Looking back, he has no regrets. “I’ve done many things in my life, and I can’t complain,” he said. Still, he liked the assurance that Park Place St. John offered additional services if he needed them in the future. Knowing that, he decided to move to Park Place in 2018. Through this move, he has remained active and formed deep friendships with others. At Park Place of Elmhurst, we recognized the chang- ing expectations of financial options for individuals who were seeking a place to move to for retirement living. Given that, in 2024, we introduced a Fee-for- Service contract, providing residents with flexibility in the type of financial agreements they can choose for entrance into the Life Plan Community. With this agreement, prospective residents can pay for care services when and if needed, rather than paying in advance in a traditional Life Care agreement. This has been a popular option, particularly for individuals who have long-term care insurance plans in place. Additionally, the retirement building’s main- level common areas, including the living room, lob- by, bistro, and dining spaces, have been beautifully remodeled to enhance the resident experience.

CELEBRATING RICH SCHUTT A Legacy of Purposeful Leadership at Providence Life Services

After almost five decades of dedicated service, Rich Schutt retired as Chief Executive Officer of Prov- idence Life Services on December 31, 2024. His remarkable tenure, including 38 years as CEO, has left an indelible mark on the organization and the countless lives it touches. As we honor his legacy, we reflect on his profound impact as a leader and someone who embraced his calling to serve. Rich’s journey with Providence began in 1969 when, as a teenager, he took a job as a maintenance worker at Rest Haven, the original name of Prov- idence Life Services. What seemed like a simple opportunity turned into a calling. “Once I came to that understanding, it became clear that the call I received from my cousin Ken (to work as a mainte- nance worker) was really a call from God,” Rich once shared. This realization transformed his work from earning a paycheck into a mission to serve others. Over the years, Rich’s role evolved, and under his leadership, Providence grew into a trusted name in senior living while remaining true to its faith- based roots. He believed deeply in holistic care— supporting not just physical needs, but the emo- tional, spiritual, and social well-being of residents and their families. “Everyone gets a ‘call’; the question is whether we recognize our calling and how we respond to it,” Rich explained. For him, answering that call meant building an organization that serves with com- passion and purpose. His leadership consistently emphasized the importance of collaboration and purpose-driven work. “This is His work, and His purposes are served in our efforts,” he said, reflect-

For over a decade, Park Place of St. John has provid- ed trusted Skilled Nursing care. In 2024, we ex- panded the licensure options on this campus to now include licensed assisted living in our Small House setting, creating a warm, homelike atmosphere. Additionally, in our long-term care houses, we now offer semi-private rooms that provide an affordable long-term care option while ensuring high-quality, compassionate service. With these changes, Park Place of St. John can serve individuals from Retire- ment Living to Assisted Living and on to higher care needs in Long-Term Care.

On all our campuses, our Transition to Home program supports short-term stays for residents needing ex- tra recovery time after hospitalization or a rehab stay before returning home. This program also introduces families to the comfort, security, and social connec- tions within our communities, with many choosing to return for the support and lifestyle they experienced. Providence at Home also celebrated 30 years of caring for patients in their homes during 2024. We are proud to have earned a 4-star quality rating from Medicare.gov, reflecting our commitment to time- ly care and patient improvement, placing us above industry standards. Providence Hospice and Palliative Care has expanded through new partnerships with Powers Health and Franciscan Health, now serving patients in Indiana and Illinois. As one of two preferred providers with Powers Health, we earned four stars in the 2024 CMS report, achieving 100% satisfaction in the latest hospice survey. We continue to enhance end-of-life care with more visits and prompt symptom manage- ment follow-ups. This past year has been one of progress and dedica- tion, and we look forward to serving our communities with excellence, compassion, and faith-driven care.

ing on Providence’s mission to enhance the lives of those we serve in the name of Jesus Christ. Rich’s legacy at Providence Life Services is a tes- tament to his unwavering faith, compassionate leadership, and commitment to making a difference. Although he has retired, his influence will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps, ensur- ing that the organization remains a beacon of care and love for years to come. From all of us at Providence, we extend our deepest gratitude to Rich for his extraordinary service. His dedication and leadership have left an indelible mark on our organization and the countless lives it touch- es. We pray that this new chapter of his life is as purposeful and fulfilling as the one he leaves behind, and we will always be appreciative and respectful of his contributions.

Recognizing the challenges of a changed workforce, post-COVID, Royal Park Place and Royal Atrium Inn began participating in Work that Matters, a grant program through LeadingAge Michigan aimed at improving employee retention in long-term care. Through weekly consultations, we’re enhancing recruitment, mentoring, and retention efforts while engaging employees as mentors to strengthen leadership skills.

The Not-for-Profit Difference HOW YOUR GIVING IMPROVES LIVES

Gifts from Ministry Leaders who demonstrate through their support their passion, confidence & commitment to the mission of Providence Life Services, “To Enhance the Lives of Those We Serve in the Name of Jesus Christ.”

At Providence Life Services, exceptional care is about more than just meeting basic needs. It in- cludes fostering meaningful relationships, provid- ing personalized support, and creating a true sense of home for every resident. One of the most significant ways your giving makes a difference is through staffing. In senior living, the resident-to-staff ratio factors into the quality of care. Through your generosity, we can maintain high staff- ing levels, ensuring that residents receive the care and attention they deserve. MORE STAFF MEANS: More personalized care: As you can see through our articles, our residents all have unique stories. They continue to live robust lives, all with unique needs and preferences. The additional staff allows for more one-on-one attention and customized care plans. Your gifts help us expand and enhance these offerings, making daily life mean- ingful and keeping their minds young. More peace of mind: For families, knowing that their loved one is cared for, truly known, and valued brings a sense of priceless security.
