Over 9 years, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and another 9 years to earn a master’s degree from Purdue University. Balancing studies with family life, he found his passion in teaching science. He participates in activities like brain games, eu- chre, and exercises and enjoys the camaraderie with other residents. Despite mobility limitations, he maintains an active mind and cherishes the friendships he’s formed. From his Air Force days exploring Europe and North Africa to cruises post-retirement, Ed has seen the world’s beauty. Highlights include the Panama Canal, the Acropolis in Athens, and camping along the Med- iterranean coast. “We camped right next to the sea, eating bread and beans,” he recalled smilingly. “Those were some of the best days.” Looking back, he has no regrets. “I’ve done many things in my life, and I can’t complain,” he said. Now, surrounded by memories and new friendships, he continues to embrace life’s moments. His story is a reminder that a well-lived life is filled with passion, perseverance, and connection.

Through this move, he has remained active and formed deep friendships with others. Ed contin- ues to live in the Retirement Living apartments on campus and is thankful to be a part of the Catered Living program, where he can receive the addition- al support he needs to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible. He appreciates the care and support. “The staff here helps me with everything I need,” he said. “I feel safe, and my kids love that I’m in a good place.”

His ability to inspire was evident as students continued to send him holiday cards and updates on their lives long after graduation.
