his undergraduate degree in business at Clarion University where he later earned his MBA. Much as he would have preferred launching his career in Erie, he went elsewhere for lack of local opportunities, achieving considerable success in the IT and cyber security industries. In recent years, Young has sought ways of giving back to his hometown. In 2014, he purchased and restored an aging building behind the comedy club at 14th and State, presently home to Domino’s Pizza. In spring 2018, he publicly announced the relocation of FRC to Erie at a media event hosted by the Erie Innovation District (EID), launched by Mercyhurst University, and the Erie Downtown Development Corporation (EDDC).

In terms of his own industry, he said, “That portion that is focused on cyber, risk management and data science is the most underserved; there are more jobs than people with the skill sets to fll them. This is a great opportunity for schools like Mercyhurst University, which has strong majors in those areas.” When Mercyhurst President Michael Victor committed the university to take the lead in forming the Erie Innovation District, which according to plan became a separate entity in 2019, one of his main goals was to mitigate brain drain and create new digital economy jobs that would provide family- sustaining wages.
