The federal Gas Tax fund provides long- term funding twice a year. Local govern- ments choose which projects to allocate the funds to. To date, a total of $2,711,760 has been provided to Russell and $16,099,878 to the United Counties. The fund is indexed at two per cent per year and has been made permanent. This year’s money is earmarked for roads, including finishing repaving Eadie road, two segments of Route 400 and a portion of St-Thomas. St. Pierre said that knowing the Gas Tax funding is coming back to municipali- ties and calculated on a per capita basis
has made budgeting much easier, as the amount could now be included in the annu- al budget. Permanency also means munici- palities no longer have to apply for funding then wait to see if it will be received, reduc- ing the administrative burden.
The federal government allows Gas Tax funding to be spent on drinking water, wastewater infrastructure, public transit, community energy systems, solid waste management and local roads.
RUSSELL l Russell Township will receive $425,861 from the Federal Gas tax fund- ing announced MP Pierre Lemieux at a news conference held last Friday at Rus- sell Township council chambers. Township mayor J.P. St. Pierre and town- ship staff were on hand for the announce- ment. MP Lemieux also announced that the United Counties of Prescott-Russell will re- ceive $2,472,405.
TPRT fête ses réalisations

a également travaillé à accroître sa visibilité lors de salons de promotion touristique. L’assemblée générale annuelle était aussi l’occasion de présenter ses états financiers. Le président du conseil d’administration, Claude Leclair, était fier d’annoncer une augmentation de 9% des membres. TPRT a été fondé en 2011 afin de faire la promotion touristique de la région.
