Families fish for free this weekend The annual Family Day Weekend Free Fishing Fun is on again this year. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has declared that anyone who likes to go ice-fishing can do so without a licence for the three days of the Family Day Weekend in Ontario, Feb. 18 to 20. Anglers still have to follow the provincial rules for ice fishing, including the daily fishing limits, to maintain native fish stocks. Anyone going out on the ice is also advised to take all safety precautions and make sure to check ice conditions ahead of time. Several sports clubs and other groups have also organized spe- cial events as part of Family Day Fishing Weekend. Check local events listings or the ministry’s Ontario Family Fishing Events website for any events in the Prescott-Russell region. – Gregg Chamberlain
