To Test Or Not To Test (CONT’D FROM PAGE 34)

infection with a related virus from the same family of viruses (called coronavirus), such as one that causes the common cold. Therefore, even a positive antibody test may not definitively indicate a prior COVID-19 in- fection. Furthermore, the notion that employees with antibodies are “immune” to COVID-19 is also specula- tive: both the WHO and the CDC caution that it is not yet known whether having antibodies to the virus can protect someone from getting infected with the virus again, or how long that protection might last. Notably, the CDC itself recommends that antibody tests should not be used to make decisions about returning persons to the workplace. The bottom line: Employers should carefully consider the pros and cons of performing and relying on COVID-19 tests. If companies do decide to implement testing of em- ployees returning to the workplace, they should implement cautiously crafted policies, procedures, and training to en- sure the confidentiality, legality, and safety of all involved in the testing (both tester and subject). Finally, employers should still require – to the greatest extent possible – that employees observe the other basic infection control prac- tices in the workplace (such as social distancing, wearing personal protective equipment, regular handwashing, and other measures) to prevent transmission of COVID-19. HP Approves BCM Inks’ Digital Overprint Varnish

Cincinnati, Ohio based BCM Inks, a manufacturer of high intensity water flexo inks, coatings, and digital primers for the direct print corrugated graphic packaging and display industry, recently had its digital overprint varnish approved by HP. The 8869HP overprint varnish (OPV) is running suc- cessfully on HP’s single pass digital press, the C500. The 8869HP OPV is a fast drying water based eco-friendly product. It provides exceptional gloss, impressive rub re- sistance, and fantastic slip resistance. “Our R&D team responded to the challenge to devel- op an extraordinary product for the HP C500 single pass digital press,” said Robert Callif, President of BCM Inks. “Even though our main business is focused on traditional flexo printing for the corrugated industry, we responded to our customers’ request for a digital overprint varnish that performs as well or better than our standard water flexo OPV. We realize digital print is a complement to direct print flexo, therefore, we will continue to put our R&D resourc- es behind the development of innovative digital and flexo products for the corrugated market.” Visit www.bcminks.com for more information on 8869HP and the rest of BCM Inks’ product offerings.
