Wake Forest Housing Affordability Plan - September 2022

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

HOUSING AFFORDABILITY PLAN | Town of Wake Forest

Plan Outreach

The public survey provided insight on housing needs for different populations.

Seniors’ Input on Housing Needs The Town of Wake Forest engaged Senior members of the community to analyze their housing needs and concerns. Seniors living on fixed incomes have been disproportionately affected by the rise in home prices. Fifty-two percent of renter households with seniors are cost burdened, as indicated in Figure 15. Seniors who own their own homes are increasingly affected by rising property taxes and the costs of home repairs. Some senior community members report being harassed and pressured to sell their homes. Intimidation mail, texts, and phone calls create a hostile living environment for seniors already struggling with housing affordability. Public Survey Results Respondents shared both their perspective on housing issues in Wake Forest and the role that they think the Town should play. 297 51% ~45%
