Make It a Happy Holiday 5 IDEAS FOR SAFE FAMILY CELEBRATIONS
Swap stories around the fire. There’s nothing like a crackling fireplace in winter, but if you want to bring some extra flair to it, create fire-time activities
COVID-19 has changed many things, but it doesn’t have to change the way we feel about the holiday season! Here are five unique ideas for celebrating with your family safely at home and perhaps creating some new traditions. Have a Zoom holiday recipe party. Cooking together is a cherished holiday tradition. If you won’t be gathering with extended family this year, video apps like Zoom are great options for still spending time with one another safely. Call your family members from the kitchen, and you can all work on following the same recipe, then see whose turns out the best. Host an outdoor gift swap. Spend time safely outdoors with friends and family by inviting people to gather on your front lawn for a gift exchange or white elephant game. Just remember to require attendees to wear masks, wash hands, and safely distance while opening gifts. Provide some disposable cups of hot chocolate to help your guests fight the chill, too. Craft an indoor snowball fight. If you’re up for getting a little crafty, you can create a fun new tradition your kids will love. By crafting fake snowballs out of nylon and stuffing, you can set up an indoor snowball fight for the whole family to participate in and help fight the boredom of staying cooped up indoors this season.
all members of your family can participate in. Take turns sharing the story of your favorite moment that year, talk about what your goals are for the new year, or read to each other from a favorite book. Have a holiday scavenger hunt. This is a way to get the kids excited about the season. Create a series of holiday riddles or poems for your kids to decipher, each one leading to clues that ultimately reveal the location of a gift. You can send them around the house, to the backyard and front yard, or even to a neighbor's house you know is safe and wants to play along, too!
The holiday season is what we make of it, so get creative, spread some cheer, and have a happy holiday!
