My Second Family PATTY REFLECTS ON HER TIME AT WOO WANG DENTAL

WOO’S NEWS DECEMBER 2019 mybestdentalcare.com

After 12 years at Woo Wang Dental, I can confidently say that my team is like my second family. I started at this practice as a

dental assistant, and I am now an office administrator. In the past 12 years, I have seen my personal life grow tremendously. I created my own family by getting married and raising two kids. It’s been a wonderful ride so far, and the one constant of my life for more than a decade has been my wonderful team at Woo Wang Dental. I will always be grateful for the team I have supporting me when I come to work every day. There’s always something to celebrate here! Whether it’s decorating for the holidays, preparing for Scary Perry, or celebrating another birthday, we love a good excuse to gather together and enjoy each other’s company.

And it’s because of you that we are growing! Recently, I have seen our team take many steps forward as we grow and expand into 2020. There’s an influx of new technology that has replaced the old during my tenure at Woo Wang Dental, and I’m excited about the direction we are heading. Dr. Edmond Woo and Dr. Hokai Wang have brought a fresh perspective to a practice Dr. Kenneth Woo began decades ago. But Dr. Kenneth Woo’s experience also gives us an edge. Combined, they have made a great team and do all they can to ensure our changes are headed in the right direction. For all the changes that may happen over the regular course of a year or decade, one thing has always remained steadfast at Woo Wang Dental: our family atmosphere. The thing I love most about this job is that I get to see the compassion our dentists and dental teams have for the patients. I love watching that interaction, and I get to see that care extended behind the scenes. I have even experienced the care firsthand! I bring my children to Woo Wang Dental because I know how compassionate our dental teams are. I have faith in the dentists at our practice, and I truly believe they want what is best for my family. There’s no one else I would trust to care for my children than the people I am lucky enough to also call family. As we head into a new decade, I cannot wait to see how Woo Wang Dental continues to grow. The holidays remind us to be thankful for what we have and appreciate those around us. This season — just like all the holiday seasons before it — I’m thankful to still call Woo Wang Dental home.

Likewise, the patients have become another extension of our family. We love seeing each one of you every time you come in for an appointment, and monitoring your progress or watching you grow is one of the many rewarding aspects of our job.

(According to Science) How to Build the Perfect Snowman Location Is Everything Before you start stacking your snowman, pick the right location for it to hang out. Asphalt will heat up faster, so stick Frosty on a grassy lawn. If you can find a place that will be in the shade when the sun comes out, all the better. Pay Attention to Proportion As you roll the snowballs to form the head and body pieces, keep proportions in mind. This is important for the visual aesthetic of your snowman and overall stability. Mathematician Dr. James Hind from Nottingham Trent University developed a formula for building the perfect snowman. He recommended that a snowman be 64 inches tall, while the sections of the snowman should be 31 inches in diameter for the base, 20 inches in diameter for the middle, and 12 inches in diameter for the head. Once your snowman is built, science has just one rule for decorating: Have fun. Grab a scarf and a top hat, a carrot nose and radish eyes, or a fancy bow tie. Building the perfect snowman means building a snowman that will make you smile when you see it.

If you’re lucky enough to get a good snow day this year, building a snowman is a great way to spend it. That said,

building a snowman isn’t all fun and games. It’s hard work, and you want to make sure the end result is worth the sore legs and soggy pants. Here are some science- backed strategies for building the perfect snowman.

Choose the Right Snow Snow is your artistic medium, so make sure you have the right material for your project. Yes, there is a wrong kind of snow to use when building a snowman. You want the snow to be moist enough that it packs well but not so slushy that it collapses under pressure. The ideal snow for building your masterpiece is freshly fallen snow when the temperature is around 32 degrees F. If the snow isn’t quite right, you can moisten it a little by spraying water on it.

HOW COSMETIC DENTISTRY CAN IMPROVE YOUR CONFIDENCE AND YOUR HEALTH

Classic Roast Chicken

Many people who flash a no-teeth smile are hiding imperfections. These can range from chips and cracks to missing teeth. Regardless, any imperfection in the composition of your teeth and smile can result in complications that affect your entire body. You may struggle to eat certain foods, which can cause nutritional deficiencies. The composition of your bite may shift, and this can lead to chronic conditions. Cosmetic dentistry offers a solution to these potentially dangerous problems. We can replace or fix your missing or broken teeth to give you a functioning smile you will be proud of. PEARLY WHITES Teeth whitening products comprise a major part of the dental market, but you may be doing more harm than good with do-it-yourself kits. Products that promise white teeth could increase sensitivity while stripping your teeth of its protective enamel. Instead, when you opt for in-office whitening solutions, you’re choosing a safer choice. The KoR and Opalescence whitening systems we use at Woo Wang Dental are proven to brighten your smile by eight shades without exposing your teeth to dangerous compounds. INCREASED PROTECTION Your enamel is the protective layer of your teeth that gives your smile the defenses it needs to avoid harmful bacteria. It’s what protects you from cavities! But when your enamel is gone, it’s gone for good. However, cosmetic dentistry can boost your protection and repair worn enamel with synthetic solutions. Your teeth will be better protected from invaders, and you can smiler brighter knowing your teeth are working for — not against — you.

Boost Your Mental Health This Season 4

Feeling SAD? Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that people experience every fall and winter. If you find yourself feeling blue as the days become shorter and darker, know there are things you can do to boost your mood until spring returns.

WAYS TO FIGHT SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER

suffering from SAD. Sunlight helps your body produce adequate amounts of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that contributes to feelings of well-being and happiness. Getting just a few minutes of sunlight a day through a walk or short jog can make all the difference. If you live in an area where the winters are bleak, cloudy, and dark, sunlight can be harder to come by. But technology has you covered: You can purchase “sun lamps,” which simulate sunlight without the damaging UV rays. Just set up a sun lamp in your workspace or living area and feel your mood lift. Maintain Your Routine Often, it can be difficult to stick with your daily routine during the cooler months. It may be harder to wake up on time in the morning to work out, or it may be too cold outside to go on your daily run. Luckily, you can find small ways to mitigate this. For example, invest in a sunrise alarm clock, which gently wakes you up with a simulated sunrise, or shop for high-quality thermal workout gear. If you continue to suffer from SAD and feel there’s no end in sight, it’s important to seek help from professionals. They can determine the best treatment options available for you.

Increase Your Activity Keeping your body active can increase your energy levels, help you sleep, reduce anxiety, and boost your self- esteem. Summit Medical Group states that a person who exercises for 30–60 minutes a day can manage or avoid SAD easier than a person who does not exercise regularly. When you participate in physical

activity, your body releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins, which have a morphine-like effect on your brain. If exercising outdoors is not ideal, consider swimming, walking, or dancing instead.

Get Some Sun

Exposure to sunlight is also significantly beneficial for people
