late. The problems that you will notice are mostly: unstable (loose) denture, hurting, does not chew, broken. Those are the problems you see/feel but there are many more that you don’t know about. Let me give you a few examples: premature facial aging from bone loss, reduced muscle function, digestive problems, sore jaw, neck, back, headaches, loss of hearing, bacteria growth. These are only a few, there are many more. These things don’t happen overnight. If you let things go for too long, you will have irreversible problems. The recommended suitable use of a denture is 5 years with proper maintenance. I see more and more patients coming in and having worn their denture for far to long and the consequences are prevalent. Bone loss is the number one reason to maintain your denture. An old denture will make bone go away much faster and will not be reversible. Life with dentures does not mean life without dental care. Most of the care maintenance is very simple and is low cost. Prevention is the key to keep what you have.
