Integrity, mentorship and genuine care are qualities personified by David Patterson, who retired at the end of 2024 after 40 years with Vaughan Engineering. Serving as director of VESL NI overseeing its mechanical and electrical operations, he has played an integral role in the success of the business. David isn’t just an exceptional engineer or thoughtful manager, but someone who truly cares, according to his colleagues. He has always taken the time to listen and understand his co-workers with genuine consideration, before taking thoughtful action. His ability to balance fierce competition in the construction industry with being a supportive mentor and trusted friend is a rare and inspiring gift. Vaughan Engineering had the bittersweet privilege of saying goodbye to David at the end of last year as he stepped into retirement from the construction industry due to ill health. However, while his absence will be deeply felt, his legacy and impact will continue to inspire his colleagues every day. David has dealt with his illness the way he has always approached his business and is focusing on spending quality time with his wife Fiona. Vaughan Engineering extends its gratitude to David for everything he has done for the industry, business, team and each of his colleagues.

Aesthetically pleasing and competitively priced for a continuous row lighting system offering a life span up to 100,000 hours, judges were wowed by the TECTON II. Marking the next evolution of a product with over 20 years of heritage, and featuring a revolutionary design developed alongside Pininfarina, Zumtobel’s TECTON sets the standard for durability, efficiency and sustainability in retail, office, data centre and logistics facilities. Operating within a temperature range of -20 to 45°C, the system is suitable for industrial environments with its modular design engineered for disassembly, repair, recycling or remanufacturing. An environmental product declaration details its CO₂ balance and material composition. LED components of the trunking system are built for longevity at L95 while maintaining an almost constant light output throughout their lifespan, delivering sustained high performance while reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs. A simple snap-in and release mechanism makes maintenance and future adjustments easy. TECTON II is fully backward compatible, meaning future upgrades to newer technology can be implemented without having to dismantle the existing system. Its minimalist aesthetic seamlessly integrates into any architectural setting.
