As the largest integrated transport hub on the island of Ireland, the £340m Belfast Grand Central Station impressively represents Dowds Group’s first foray into transportation. A large, complex city centre project requiring close collaboration with Farrans Sacyr JV, Dowds efficiently delivered a £14m full MEP package. Its scope of services comprised LV distribution and switchgear, a full security package including external car park systems, AC units and roof-mounted PV systems. Also included were customer information screens for train and bus schedules, and integrated NaviLens wayfinding technology, a user-friendly GPS app aiding safe access throughout the building for blind, deafblind and partially-sighted visitors.

installation. Comprising 140,000sqft of office space across 12 floors, the project highlights its technical competence. The £3.3m contract included main and life safety LV distribution, lighting, small power, fire alarm and disabled refuge, access control and intruder alarm systems, structured cabling and a PV system. Facing space constraints routing busbar through a congested mezzanine plant area, PMK’s in-house design team engineered a bespoke solution. Sustainability-driven elements included LED lighting throughout, a 160sqm PV system on the Level 12 roof and 10 EV chargers, with the building achieving BREEAM Excellent certification.
