A focus on technical and complex projects, delivering best-in-class solutions and keeping clients at the core of its business is paying dividends for the Dowds Group. Dowds has an impressive portfolio and has completed five large electrical contracts over the last two years, including a £20m MEP commission for Queen Elizabeth Hospital in London, and a £24m package at Ulster University’s new Belfast campus. Committed to ongoing investment in technology, Dowds’ in-house BIM department recently acquired a 3D scanner to facilitate automatic capture of on- site data, generating faster and more accurate data with reduced defects. Investment in a bid management system has reduced complexity and time in the flow of information with suppliers, allowing Dowds to effectively manage concurrent projects. New project management methodologies were deployed with Dowds moving into 2024/2025 with a confirmed order book for the next 18 months and line of sight further into 2026 resulting in year-on-year growth of 15%. A new Energy Solutions offering from Dowds also assists clients with the implementation of tailored sustainability strategies, while Dowds has committed to reducing its own carbon footprint by 50% between 2020 and 2030.
Consistently delivering high-quality work meeting project timelines and budgets, PMK impressed judges with its commitment to safety, innovation and the professional development of its team. Adept at managing technically- challenging projects, PMK conducts in-depth energy audits for businesses as well as integrating sustainability into its own daily operations. The company currently employs 14 apprentices, partners with local schools to offer work placements and operates an intensive, five-week leadership training programme to provide emerging leaders with the skills needed to drive its strategic vision. PMK’s impressive portfolio of high-profile projects includes delivering advanced electrical systems balancing modern functionality with preservation, at the Grade 1-listed National Portrait Gallery in London. By implementing a bus bar distribution system in the basement supplying existing service risers, sub-mains cable installation throughout the gallery was minimised. Wireless technology was introduced for fire and refuge alarms and lighting controls in areas where structural modifications proved difficult. Another significant project, Keelings Flowers’ new-build factory, required the relocation of underground services without disrupting existing operations.
