Description: Come with us on an investigation into the importance of storytelling across time and place. Students will learn about folk- lore classification by studying a selection of myths, fables, fairy tales, and legends. We will then take what we have learned about folklore types and recurring motifs and apply it to several short stories from modern masters of the genre. Prepare to enjoy some old favorites and some new ones as we ponder the purpose of stories to enter- tain us, illuminate our understanding, and teach valuable lessons.

Teacher: Marjule Hartmann Semester: Spring Day and Time (EST): Tuesdays, 1:00 PM Dates: Jan. 14 to April 8, 2025 (No class March 11th) Class Duration: 45 min Recommended Grade Range: 6th - 8th

Description: Join us as we seek to unravel the mysteries of meter & metaphor, rhythm & rhyme, and gain a whole new perspective on poetry. We’ll learn the methods poets use to pack powerful ideas and emotions into just a few lines of verse. Together we will read a wide variety of poems, from the hauntingly beautiful to the down- right silly. Prepare to be inspired! Course Materials: Students will obtain a notebook, journal, or looseleaf binder to keep the poems. All poems will be made avail- able free as a downloadable PDF from the teacher.
