Description: Students will build games (2D), illustrate stories, and create art and animations during their exploration. The tools we will use have similar properties to building block toys used by children to construct model-sized homes, stores, and towns. More advanced students will have the option of learning Script-based program- ming tools. In addition to learning to code, students will learn about computing careers, the history of computer science, hardware and software design, and discovering ways for technology to serve peo- ple and communities. Coding with Minecraft
Teacher: Dan Goddu Semester: Fall
Day and Time (EST): Wednesdays, 10:00 AM Dates: Sept. 4 to Nov. 6, 2024. (No class Oct. 16) Class Duration: 45 min Recommended Grade Range: 6th - 8th
Description: Coding with Minecraft introduces students to core computer programming concepts such as events, coordinates, variables, conditionals, functions, and iteration. It builds on the popularity of Minecraft and introduces core concepts to learn how to code. The class offers two levels of challenge: level one – block coding for beginners, and level two – Python coding for students with at least a year of block coding experience. Student projects will focus on introducing holiness and salvation into the world of Mine- craft.
