City of Lewiston Spring 2024 Magazine & Program Guide

MAYOR'S MESSAGE Dear Residents of Lewiston, As we welcome our new city councilor, Jessica Klein, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the essence of public service and what it means for both our dedicated public agency workers and those serving in elected capacities. For everyone here at the City of Lewiston, public service is more than a job; it's a commitment to professionalism and the creation of a civil and cooperative environment. We understand that our work exposes us to additional public scrutiny, a responsibility we take seriously in both our professional and personal lives. Now, let's discuss the unique challenges and rewards of serving in an elected capacity. Being an elected official is akin to captaining a ship through varying waters. It involves making decisions that impact our entire community and requires resilience, effective communication, and a deep sense of responsibility. Elected officials serve as bridges between the public and the decision-making process, engaging with constituents, understanding diverse perspectives, and making choices that align with the greater good. I am grateful for the trust you have placed in me to serve on your behalf; it's a responsibility I hold with utmost respect. In this quarter?s edition of Living Lewiston, you'll find valuable community safety information, details about upcoming road work, a host of spring activities provided by our Parks and Recreation and Library Departments, and more. Speaking of spring, it's a time for renewal and community engagement. If you're looking for ways to contribute to our city, consider borrowing reflective vests and garbage bags from the Public Works Department, or check out a trash grabber from the Library to help pick up trash around the community ? an activity you might catch me doing frequently. Other nonprofit agencies in our community also organize similar opportunities. If you're interested in a more sustained commitment, serving on a citizen board, commission, or committee is a fantastic way to play a part in keeping our community in great shape. Thank you for being an integral part of our community. Together, we can foster a community we can all be proud of.
