Lance Chadd Tjyllyungoo Power Station Commission

Boorloo Contemporary Celebrating the borderless creative thinking of First Nations artists. Shaped by a group of First Nations curators and arts leaders, Boorloo Contemporary is a commissioning and development stream that fosters genre-defying, contemporary artworks. These transformative, immersive experiences explore relationships between new and old technologies, light, sound, storytelling and ceremony – expanding and challenging expectations of the ‘visual arts’. In 2026 Boorloo Contemporary brings East Perth Power Station to life with awe-inspiring and thought-provoking commissions as well as presenting solo exhibitions across Perth that offer deep immersion into artistic practice and process.

6 Feb – 1 Mar East Perth Power Station Warndoolier/East Perth Thu – Sun from 7.45pm Free event

We’re lighting up the walls of East Perth Power Station again and transforming our Festival hub into an awesome outdoor gallery. Bibbulmun Noongar/Budimia Yamatji artist Lance Chadd Tjyllyungoo’s breathtaking depictions of landscapes skilfully weave Noongar spiritual beliefs and stories into images of physical landforms. His paintings of this Country, wetlands to hills, from another time and perspective come to life on the façade of the colonial Power Station building in an exquisite expression of the inseparable connection between land and spirit in Noongar culture. This year’s Power Station Commission is a stunning Insta-worthy experience. One that also challenges us to consider the place where we’re gathering to enjoy the Festival – its significance, stories and beauty.
