For 2017, the silhouette of the popular Elantra has been given a more rounded shape as well as Hyundai’s new hexagonal grille. The inter- ior is more spacious and the trim more sophis- ticated. Luxury equipment includes a heated steering wheel, a driver’s seat with memory function, dual-zone automatic climate control and a navigation system with an eight-inch screen. The base engine is a new 2.0-L four-cylinder At- kinson-cycle producing 147 horsepower. This can be pegged to either a manual 6-speed or an auto-
matic 6-speed transmission. To save you money at the pump, engine manufacturers have designed a 1.4-L four-cylinder turbo that generates 128 horse- power and 156 pound-feet of torque. Baptized the Eco, this all-new engine is offered with a new auto- matic 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. In the compact SUV segment, Hyundai has redesigned the Tucson, giving it sportier lines in- spired by the Santa Fe Sport, which has also benefit- ed from an overhaul for 2017. The chassis has been strengthened to improve handling and comfort. Mechanically-speaking, the base engine is a 2.0-
L four-cylinder producing 164 horsepower while the optional new 1.6-L four-cylinder turbo produ- ces 175 horsepower. The 2.0-L is equipped with an automatic 6-speed gearbox while the 1.6-L comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. In the fuel-efficient vehicle segment, the Sonata offers a conventional hybrid engine or a plug-in hy- brid. The arrival of the new Ioniq 2017 — a com- pact car that offers three engine options: hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric — has also been making news.
