Special Recognition Awards Two well-known figures in Ireland’s electrical sector, Tony Cullen and Noel Simpson, were presented with Special Recognition Awards by Electrical Industries Federation of Ireland President Mark Keogh. Tony was treasurer of AEW for 13 consecutive years, represented the organisation in its initial negotiations with WEEE Ireland to set up the WEEE Recycling scheme and has been a strong advocate of the AEW Staff Training Programme. His company, Eurosales, is a leading participant in the training programme with its employees racking up a huge number of distinctions to date. A man who has, in his own words, “been hanging around the AEW for many years”, Noel has been both president and chairman of AEW and represented it on the Electrical Federation Council and the IEBA Appropriations Committee. He was also part of the AEW’s negotiating team for the WEEE Ireland take-back scheme.

AEW Awards Lunch 2024 recognises its leading members
A new Quality Charter reflecting changes to standards and directives within the electrical industry was presented to members of the Association of Electrical Wholesalers (AEW) at its Awards Lunch 2024. Winners were also announced for both the WEEE Recycling Awards and Staff Training Awards at the event, which was held in the Clayton Hotel, Liffey Valley on May 8. Host for the afternoon was broadcaster Des Cahill, with members and supporters of the organisation welcomed by AEW Administrator Ken Legros. “This event is an ideal opportunity to present the new AEW Quality Charters to our members,” said Ken. “The previous version of the quality charter was presented to AEW members way back in 2002, yes 22 years ago. We felt that it was high time that a new version of the quality charter was drafted.” In his fourth and final year as chairman of the volunteer AEW Committee, Ken extended particular thanks to Mark McCluggage (CEF), Paul O’Brien (EWL), Michelle Lynch (Fegime), Martin Hand (IEBG), Barry Dunne (Kellihers) and independent wholesalers Noel Simpson, Caroline O’Connor, Cormac Kavanagh, Cliff Elliott and John Garry. Special guests included EIFI President Mark
Keogh and Past President Gay Byrne, Jim Copeland of the Hardware Association of Ireland, and Cel O’Reilly and Dan Fisher, who spoke to highlight their charitable endeavours with the Irish Electrical Benevolent Association. Leo Donovan, Robyn Macken, Aoife Kelly and Laurence Kieran represented WEEE Ireland, sponsor of the WEEE Recycling Awards, alongside Eric Duignan, Sean Meally and Ciara McInerney from Staff Training Awards sponsor EI Electronics. Both sets of awards recognise the AEW’s six member groups, CEF, EWL Electric, Fegime, IEBG, Kellihers and the Independents recognising 14 wholesalers (see overleaf for winners). Ken also took the opportunity to update members on AEW’s work with EDA on the EDATA database of technical specifications for products. AEW members are trialling EDATA and, if successful, it may be rolled out to industry later in the year. AEW is also working on a National Sales Apprenticeship Programme, designed by a consortium of sales industry partners along with Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board. E: admin@aew.ie
