A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week as the GCSE and A Level exams got underway Year 10 continued to work on their studies. This week we had an assembly with Ms Lane on Mental Health Awareness week linking in with the wonderful skills and attributes that athletes have shown in the Invictus Games. We also held the successful House Captain applicants competition and we launched our new Prefect system to students and staff. All students who have become prefects should have collected their prefect badges and cards and have spoken to the head of the department to which they have been allocated. The member of staff will then tell them when and where they need to attend and how to achieve our two special awards of enjoy and empower. For more information students should look on their tutor google classrooms. 10 of our wonderful students have been representing Richmond in Milan since last Thursday as part of a European Youth Orchestra. The students in Year 10 include; Matilda V, Freya DS, Lily DS, Elodie W, Eleanor O, Emily C. Well done to all who participated, I hope you had a lovely time! This Friday we have a trip going out to Paris with some of our Year 10 GCSE students going out to soak up the sights and sounds of France. I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures when you return next week. Next week is our final week of the half term and all students will have had a chance to look over the Year 10 Exam content that has been posted on tutor google classes and have spoken to their subject teachers. We will also focus on developing a revision timetable in tutor time for the students to use over half term. All students should have now finalised their work experience placements and submitted all the paperwork required. If you have any questions please contact Ms Croucher ASAP.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Turtles all the way down by John Green. Turtles all the way down follows the 16 year old character Aza Holmes as she struggles with OCD and anxiety. However, she embarks on a journey to find out the mysterious absence of her ex million best friend’s father, despite the dangers involved within this. I found this book really intriguing as it gives you a first hand perspective on the experiences that people struggling and persevering with mental illnesses face. It also delves into the strong connections of friendships and how they shape you to be the person you are today. ~ Recommended by Yasemin A, 11ERU
