William James (1842-1910) was an influential American philosopher and psychologist, considered one of the founders of modern psychology and a leading representative of philosophical pragmatism. He was a professor at Harvard University and a pioneer in studying the mind from a scientific and philosophical perspective. Among his best known works are “Principles of Psychology”, where he introduced key ideas about consciousness and experience, and “The Varieties of Religious Experience”, where he explored the role of religion in human life. His focus was on how ideas and beliefs work in practice, rather than on their abstract truth.
