in Greece, stemming from a slowing economy, which has resulted in a lack of investment in sustainable water infrastructure. Italy has gained production share in lettuce but has lost share in broccoli and tomatoes.
The increase in lettuce production is the result of warmer weather, which offers a consistent winter season, while the decline in tomato and broccoli production is due to shortages of seasonal labor and rising costs of raw input materials.
VEGETABLE PRODUCTION HAS SHIFTED AWAY FROM EU COUNTRIES SUCH AS FRANCE TOWARDS TURKEY AND SOUTHERN EUROPE
