Source: Start-up survey, Western Growers, Roland Berger Figure 42: Start-up overview by funding round, paying customers and number of robots in operation [# respondents; % share of total]
The survey results allow overall market indications to be drawn for each of the three key metrics. The funding round findings suggest specialty crop automation start- ups are continuing to receive access to capital, which will accelerate their commercialization process. For the
number of paying customers, the data indicates that fewer start-ups are in pre-commercial stages. Regarding the number of robots, the overall increase shows that start-ups are able to get more robots in the field, which reflects their ability to secure more paying customers.
