I t was way back in 1961 that would never be the same again. The island’s stunning beauty and re- laxed, hedonistic spirit led to it becom- ing a mecca for artists, tourists, celebri- ties and the world’s elite — and Mykonos soon became the epicentre of good times in the Aegean. about enjoyment. Hotel Yi was designed in accordance with the island-wide trend of the hotels of Mykonos serving more as places to with- draw and relax than as party hubs. Lo- cated in a tranquil, windswept area at the heart of the island, with only the odd guesthouse nearby, it’s easy to imagine that you find yourself in blissful isolation. Follow the winding road to the nearest beach, Elia, on the island’s south coast, while the rooms of the hotel’s upper lev- el offer extensive views of the Aegean. However, as this is still Mykonos, there’s also a place for those wanting to party: a DJ plays music beside the 40-metre-long pool from noon until 8pm.
Kalesma – representing a complex of standalone apartments and villas with one or two bedrooms – is located in a peaceful, private cove that descends from a hill overlooking Ornos Bay. The sur- roundings have been carefully landscaped — complete with old olive groves, colour- ful bougainvillea and aromatic herbs like rosemary, basil and lavender that fill the area with fragrances. The focus here is on relaxation, though without compromis- ing when it comes to providing an im- peccable service — the staff can handle everything from making reservations at in-demand restaurants to organising tai- lored excursions.
