Loyd J. Bourgeois Attorney-at-Law

You did it. You made it to the end of the beginning.

Congratulations on your high school diploma! This is a significant milestone in your life — a time when you have grown immensely, learned intently, and begun the journey to who you will ultimately become. Remember this as you embark on the next chapter of your life — the slate is clean, and what you have done from the beginning until now does not predict your future. As they say, “Past performance is not a guarantee of future results.” At this moment, you have the opportunity and choice to be whoever you wish to be. The old man in me wonders what I would have done back then if I had known what I know now. The young man in me insists it’s never too late to learn. So here are three things I hope you embrace as you enter adulthood: First, your mindset matters. Paraphrasing Henry Ford, the great American innovator, whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are correct. Your beliefs about yourself will shape who you become. But here’s the secret — if you don’t like who you are, you can change who you will be by changing your beliefs about yourself. Talk to yourself positively. Discover the beauty and uniqueness within yourself. Second, learning opportunities abound; embrace them. Try new things. Take risks. Explore and experiment. If you approach every learning opportunity with the right mindset, you will never fail. You will only learn how to approach or do things differently next time. Thirdly, remember the importance of kindness and compassion. You can and should have an impact on those around you. Your actions, both big and small, can have a profound impact on the lives of others. Approach every interaction with empathy, understanding, and respect. This mindset will enhance your perspective, create more learning opportunities, and leave a lasting mark on the world. As our world evolves faster than ever, you have the privilege of leading the way. May you discover your passion and create the life you desire. Cheers to you and the Class of 2025!

INGREDIENTS • 1/2 cup butter • 1 cup Nutella • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (use semi-sweet or dark, milk would be far too sweet, and you’d lose the chocolate flavor) • 3/4 cup white chocolate chips • 2/3 cup hazelnuts • 13 cups (more or less) or one 12oz box of hearty wheat/corn/rice cereal like Crispix or Chex – try to find a hearty version so it doesn’t break down when stirring • 3 cups powdered sugar

spoon. It may take some time since the batter is thick. 9. Dump the mixture into a gallon-size zipper bag and add powdered sugar. Start with a small amount and add more as needed. You don’t want them TOO coated with powdered sugar because they will end up tasting too sweet. 10. Zip up the bag and shake it until the ingredients are well-coated.

Lindy and Loyd traveled to Denver, Colorado, to attend the Personal Injury Lawyer Marketing and Management Association conference. We’re always looking for better ways to serve our clients, and this trip was all about learning from some of the best minds in personal injury law and bringing new ideas back home to Louisiana.

After the conference, we took a day to enjoy some of Colorado’s natural beauty. We visited Garden of the Gods and even made it up to Pike’s Peak. Let’s just say Loyd isn’t a big fan of the cold, but lucky for him, it wasn’t too chilly. We’re back now, full of ideas and more committed than ever to fighting for the folks who count on us.
