Welch Packaging Installs First Fosber Belted Single Facer In United States
After many years of research and development, Fosber introduced the Smart SF5-Belt Single Facer into their product line. E-commerce, the unboxing experience along with the emergence of digital print, have all contributed to the demand for inside the box printing. “The need for our customers to produce flat sheets, with the ability to print on both the doubleface and singleface liners prompted us to develop the Smart SF5-Belt Single Facer,” explains Jeff Pallini, President, Fosber America Inc.

The new Smart SF5-Belt SingleFacer is a quick flute change cas- sette machine with a Teflon coated belt. The SF5 merges innovation, reliability, and technology to control belt pressure, tracking with en- hanced durability and ease to maintain. The SF5 has a special design that allows for a fast belt replacement. In addition, it has optional Water Decks for both medium and liner sides, creating moisture balanced, flat sheets. The water deck also aids in avoiding post warp. In 2021, Welch Packaging purchased a repurposed singlewall Fos- ber corrugator. However, Welch required the corrugator to be capable of producing doublewall sheets and a singlefacer that could produce sheets capable of inside print. Welch preferred a belted single facer, thus trusting their relationship and desire for one OEM which made Fosber the ideal choice for the new equipment, purchasing and install- ing the first Fosber SF5-Belted SingleFacer in the US in October 2022. The production and the performance of the SF5-Belted Single Fac- er has been impressive. The SF5 quickly became the preferred single facer for the Welch operators. They are able to do flute changes quick- ly, allowing them to use their first single facer to run doublewall. The Welch Packaging maintenance crew has learned the SF5-Belt- ed Single Facer quickly with Fosber’s industry leading Training and Service departments. The SF5-Belted Single Facer has provided the performance and uptime Welch expects from Fosber America. The sheets produced are flat and printable on the inside of the box. With the success of Welch Packaging’s first Smart SF5-Belt Single Facer, there are four more on the schedule for the U.S. market. “We look forward to the continued partnership with Fosber America and the success of our upcoming installations,” said a Welch representative.
